Peter was deliberately trying to ignore the fact that he seemed to be plastic. He didn't want to deal with that.

It was, however, making sipping his coffee a problem. As he sat in the common room, Dirty Jobs on the TV, he couldn't help but wonder if he was going to accidentally melt something.

That would be terrifying.

He was avoiding thinking of a lot of things, right now. There was only so much the sane human mind could deal with.

It wasn't as though Claudia could nod, today (though she could swivel her head around 360 degrees). She raised her own arm experimentally, noting that the angle of the swivel joint didn't allow for her hand to actually, you know, reach her mouth.

"Yeah, that'd be difficult." She looked at the TV. "Had some success with the remote though, huh?"

"I wedged it in the couch cushion so it'd stay in place," Peter admitted. "This was the channel it was already on."

Lucky break, really.

"Really, the island should have turned everything else into plasticy blocky stuff, too. It'd only be fair."

Yeah, she was arguing that the island should be fair. And yeah, even she realized how that sounded.

"I'm just hoping this is one of those one-day things," Peter said. "I like not being all... toyed with."

He thought he was clever.

"Could be worse," Claudia offered. "We could be bobbleheads."

Peter tried to give Claudia a quizzical expression. "Let's not give the island ideas," he said, feeling a bit foolish at implying sentience upon a location.

"Oh, 'cause I'm sure someone said 'You know, I'm glad we're not plastic block people' yesterday."

"We don't know that," Peter said. "It's entirely possible."

"I'm thinking there are more likely scenarios."

"You have any theories, I'd love to hear them," Peter said. "Partially because there's not much else I can actually do today."

"Reality flares?" Yeah, she totally just made that one up. "Honestly, I've been more distracted by the fact that I'm pretty sure taking off my pants would involve removing my entire lower half." She bent forward slightly at the waist and lifted one foot. "Also, there's holes in my feet."

"What, like as the island is on a dimensional nexus, sometimes its rules of reality are... overwritten by more dominant dimensions from time to time?" Peter said, pulling that theory out of his plastic butt.

"Makes more sense than 'The island can hear you and has an overdeveloped sense of irony'."

"I like irony," Peter said, attempting a shrug.

"...I really want this day to be over."

"Where's your sense of adventure? Just think how much harder it would be to accidentally blow yourself up while plastic."

"My sense of adventure?" Peter scoffed. "My sense of adventure prefers having fingers and thumbs and knees and all the other things I'm missing."

"Okay, granted. But that doesn't mean you can't make the most of this while it's happening. . . . Not that I've worked out how to get any work done when I can't bend my wrists."

"Yeah, it's more of just a rotation," Peter said. "I don't know what universe this is like, but the dominant species must have a lot of patience to survive there."

"Or possibly they entertain themselves by exchanging removable parts."

"...you think we can actually do that?" Peter asked, throwing a bit of caution to the wind.

"It's a little bit daunting to think about trying it, but considering the seams on the moving bits, I'm thinking they're detachable."

"You know, if I wasn't worried about fatal results, I'd ask you to try pulling off my hand," Peter said.

"Yeah, I've been kinda debating giving that a shot, myself. With my hand. Not yours. That'd be rude."

"I appreciate you not secretly plotting to dismember me," Peter said. "Let me know what happens if you go through with that, though."

Claudia attempted -- and failed -- to salute. "I'll be sure to make a full report."
