Hayley had been bored. So incredibly bored. While she was a little worried about not having a job or a class to TA, she wasn't concentrating on that right now.

Right now she was laying on a common room couch, watching a movie that was utterly horrifying her.

It was supposedly about Elvis. But Elvis was definitely not like she remembered him.

She couldn't even eat any of the popcorn she made. She was that horrified.

Karla had honestly not expected this kind of reaction and felt terribly guilty for having caused it. "Not everyone!" she protested. Helpfully.

"Just a few! Not even Dinah, and she visited his house!"

Still not helping, Karla.

"In Sookie's world, he's a vampire?"

That was actually a surefire way to get Hayley to snap out of it.

"...He's a what now?"

Her mood had gone from one extreme to another, this time confusion.

"As far as I can tell--and, remember, you're hearing this is third-hand from someone who doesn't really know much about King Bubba anyway--he very nearly died one night," Karla said, trying to recall what Sookie had said. "The coroner on duty was a vampire and sensed some fading spark of life. So he also made King Bubba a vampire, but due to him being mostly-dead for awhile and all of the drugs and things in his system, he came back...weird."

Sorry, Hayley. It was doubtful Elvis would ever be known as anything but 'King Bubba' to her,

"That's one of the most awful things I ever heard," Hayley said, sighing a bit. "I don't want to think of him all... drugged up and weird and sucking blood."

Now, if it was young Elvis in his prime that was a vampire, she'd be singing a completely different tune.

At the last possible second before the words left her lips, Karla realized adding, "And eating cats," would probably not be helpful in this situation. Instead she made a kind of odd, strangling noise that she tried to pass off as a cough.

"Tell me about your King?" she asked instead. "Since I only know this one?"

"My king," Hayley said, actually giggling lightly. "Well, he was so much younger, and thinner. But... I guess he still sang the same. He could drive you crazy the way he was able to shake those hips. But that voice, oh that voice. That's what drove me wild."

"That's what they called him, after," Karla said. "The King. Wasn't he one?"

"Not like, for real," Hayley explained, gesturing sagely. "They called him the King because he was the best rock and roll singer of all time. Or, well, at least at that time, not that I've ever really heard any one better. I don't know who came up with it or even why, but it sure fit him. I woulda been his queen any day."
