First Floor Rec Room - Friday Night

The times you could find Kyle Reese sitting and staring at a television without any other distraction could be counted on one hand. This was one of those nights though, and he felt like zoning out. There was some show on about an FBI agent going into a beauty pageant. Kyle wasn't paying a lot of attention to it.

He leaned forward to grab the controllers and change the channel. With one of the controllers tossed in George's direction, he sat back. "Only if you're okay with being beaten. And thanks. Alice didn't get to choose who came for her. I didn't think about that."

"Lies, I'll be kickin' yer ass," George argued, catching the controller. "Who did come fer Alice?" He paused. "...did she come back?"

"You can try," Kyle retorted and pressed the button to start up the system. "Alice came back through Karla's closet." He shared a smile with George since they would both be able to imagine how Karla had probably reacted. "She's staying in the room while she's here. Her family got wiped out over a hundred years ago, but only her little sister showed up. She's handling it pretty well."

George snorted at Kyle's remark. "Alice is lucky Karla didn' hex her or some sort. Send her wherever she does keep all that stuff she disappears." He eyed the controller, making sure he was familiar with the buttons. Marginally, he was. "Didn' know that about Alice. No wonder she's a bit tetchy about security an' th' like."

"She doesn't really announce it. You should be more tetchy about security," he said, going off on a tangent. "At home."

"Y'think?" George asked, taking Kyle opinion seriously. "In th'future y'mean or fer me mam now?"

"Both," Kyle shrugged. He changed the menu to load up the game that was already in there, one of those assassin ones where you had to sneak around. "Don't you worry about her?"

"I do," he agreed. "She do be under th'Rogue's protection now. But y'never know if such things'll when th'leadership changes an' th'like."

From the menu he started a new multiplayer game and waited for it to load. "I know she thinks she's doing the right thing by sending you here. We wouldn't have met if she didn't." He was grateful that she had. "But like you said. We should work something out."

"An' that would've been terrible," George grinned, elbowing Kyle in the side. "We'd both be up a pole." He watched the changes on the screen, fiddling with his controls. "If I draw up an plan of th' house, would ye help me figure somethin' out?"

"Of course. Modern technology or Tortall technology only?"

"Both," he decided. "There's not no restrictions on bringin' things back."

"If there's anything with power, we'll have to think about a renewable power source. And a couple of ways out of the city."

George laughed good-naturedly at Kyle's requirements. "How many should we have? I can be thinkin' of twenty off th'top of me head."

A smile tugged at the corners of his mouth. "Twenty should do it. We'll have to go easy on any explosives. The whole Lower City could go up."

"If th'whole Lower City goes up, I won' have nothin' to rule as th'Rogue," George chuckled. "T'would be a sad day fer me. We'll avoid that, aye."

"How long do you think your mom will make you stay here?" Which was really a hidden question of 'when do you think you'll go back and take over the Court?'

"She jus' wanted me t'stay th'year," he admitted, glancing over at Kyle. "But I don' see much reason t'go back yet." Which was the hidden answer of he didn't want to leave his friends.

"Good," Kyle replied, but he couldn't say he wasn't disappointed that George could be going home at any time. They were both in the same boat now. "Wouldn't be the same here if you went home."

"Course it wouldn't," he agreed staunchly if far too literally. "I wouldn' be here." George grinned over at Kyle. "Though I do say th'same thing about ye. Glad y'did come back e'en though I've said it before."

He rolled his eyes in good humor at George being literal. "Me too." Kyle was finally starting to get a feel for being here. Knowing more about why he'd been sent here, and that it was for bigger and better things - something he'd never considered for himself before - made it easier. "After we're done with the cabins, if you want to, there's room in 511 if you want a new roommate." He shrugged. "If you want to."

"Don' have a roommate a'tall since Layla left," George acknowledged. "But - would like it if ye didn' mind. An' be a hunnrit times better than th'school assignin' someone else who couldn' be trusted t'share."

"That's what I was thinking. My room has the security I set up when I got here. We could probably get a game thing like this and put it in there to play whenever we wanted."

George grinned and reached up to give Kyle a high-five. "This would be the best idea ever. Soon as we get back from th'cabins, aye?"

Kyle let go of his controller long enough to return the high five. "Soon as we get back. I'll help you carry your stuff up."

"Good t'know," he joked. "I'll make sure ye get th'bundle wit' all the stones."
