The roof, Saturday afternoon

So, it was official. They said it on the radio and everything. Fandom sucked, and was out to get her.

Okay, so they didn't say that bit. But they did confirm that the latest weirdness meant it was, like, the one time she could have gotten any of her family to actually visit the island. She figured it would have been nice if her parents showed, but she could forgive them. She barely even remembered them -- she'd been too young when they'd died. But to have Joshua not show up?

That was just . . . mean.

So she was up on the roof, staring vaguely over the edge, watching out for people wandering around with their dead loved ones and generally being grumpy. It was probably a really good thing she and Scully hadn't put a trebuchet up here, yet.

[ooc: Roof of emo is open, yo. My poor girl is working on an epiphany, but she's absolutely botherable.]

"Dana! I'm so proud of you!" Melissa laughed and hugged her sister, who groaned. "I don't think you've let loose since..." Oh, right, not telling. "Forever. Unless it was Fox dragging you into another wild goose chase. Didn't you get covered with dung on one of those?"

"Missy!"

"Fox Mulder. Dana's Best Friend. Forever." You could hear the capitals as Scully facepalmed at Melissa's words. "He's the psych guy, and she's the science geek. He was so worried the first time I met her--" She looked at Scully's face and sighed in exasperation. "Not talking about that, either? Dana."

"Missy," Scully said, as close to flailing as she got. "Claudia doesn't want to hear about the messes we got into. Really." She paused, then added, "The thing with the manure is where we met Baaaambi."

"There was that one trip, and wasn't there one where you got to meet that author, Jose Chung? When he was working on From Outer Space?" Dana's eyes widened at that mention, and Melissa grinned again. "Where you thought you saw Alex Trebek?"

[identity profile] showmetheproof.livejournal.com 2010-07-17 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
"I didn't see Alex Trebek. It was probably just someone who really looked like Alex Trebek," Scully tried to clarify. "In a black trenchcoat. Telling us that there was no case. And no cover-up. And... okay, that one we never got a good explanation, except that the dead alien was a guy in a rubber mask." She paused, then seeing Missy's grin, hurriedly added, "And I still don't know how I woke up in Mulder's room, but nothing happened."

"Dana tends to keep things to herself too much, unless you poke her." Melissa grinned at her sister, and messed up her hair. Dana brushed it down and gave her an irritated look. "She and Mulder have been getting into messes since they met." Her face sobered a little. "And made a few enemies. That's why she's here."

"In a way, if you wanted to look at it from a certain angle," Scully temporized. At Melissa's sardonic look, she sighed. "Yes. Mostly. It's complicated. There isn't a specific crime, it's just--" She tried to think how to put it, glaring at Missy. "I'm safer here. For now, anyway."

[identity profile] showmetheproof.livejournal.com 2010-07-17 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Scully facepalmed again. "I don't even know where I'd start, and I just..." She looked over at Missy, and said caustically, "How would you explain it?"

[identity profile] crystal-sister.livejournal.com 2010-07-17 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
"I wouldn't lie about any of it, since Claudia's your friend and you haven't done anything wrong," Melissa pointed out. "You're just worried she'll freak out and not believe you."

[identity profile] showmetheproof.livejournal.com 2010-07-17 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Scully sighed, tired. Her reasons for keeping this a secret had begun with not wanting to be threatened by those interested in her condition, and to not be locked up as crazy.

She did wonder if *anyone* was ever locked up as crazy on this island, now.

Finally, she said, "I really hope this doesn't piss you off, that I didn't explain earlier." She bit her lip. "Mulder ran into a genie. At least, he says it was a genie. I still can't believe it. And he made a wish. About me." She grimaced.

"Djinn, you said. Or djinnayah. Not a TV cartoon wish granter, but an ancient magic-using entity," Melissa interrupted. "And unfortunately, she's gone missing, so the wish can't be reversed." She gave Scully a sympathetic look. "Which, well. Dana would really like that."

NFB, squirrels, shhhhh from here on in

Scully grimaced. "He wished that I'd be in the best health I'd ever been in. After wishing for world peace and ending up the only person on Earth-- according to him-- he only had one wish left." She rubbed her eyes. "It had a side-effect."

Say it. Just. Spit. It. Out.

"...it took twenty years off my age."

Dana was grumbling and hiding her head in her hands again, so Melissa stepped in. "Until April, Dana was thirty-five years old. Now she's fifteen. Body and brain and everything else that goes with it. She just remembers being thirty-five."

There, that was really clear, wasn't it?

Scully's head snapped up in outrage. "Hey, what? I thought I was doing okay here. I haven't made any major mistakes!"

"Dana, you were serious the first time you were a teenager, but nowhere near as serious as you've gotten over the last ten years." Melissa shook her head. "And that's just the first thing I can think of."
