Shooting Range, Thursday Afternoon

Wesley did not like his Thursday class. No, he did not. He did like shooting things, however. So that was where he could be found this Thursday, hitting the target every time and throwing in some show-offy maneuvers on occasion.

Another thing he did not like was being bad at stuff, which was unfortunate because today was to be the second session of his archery training with Katniss, and so far he was not particularly pleased with his performance in archery.

So he shot some stuff while he waited for Katniss.

[feel free to come in if you want! Heads up, I have class from 12:15 to 2:30, but I'll be on before and after. And oh man that time difference conversion was too much math for this early in the morning.]

Katniss wandered in promptly on time, bow and quiver slung over her shoulder easily. She entered just in time to catch one of those show-offy maneuvers, and raised an eyebrow. "Impressive," she commented lightly.

[omg I am tackling stupid statistics homework for the next couple hours, so there's a bit of SP until 6 or so EST!]

"Modest, too," she said dryly. "But yes, I'd like to work with smaller guns as well as the rifle." She raised her bow and added, "I brought your friend, the bow again, but I also brought my knife. Do you know how to throw them?" She, actually, didn't; after the incident with Clove, though, she wanted to learn, and practice was the only way to do it.

"I knew someone who could do it. Throw them, I mean," Katniss admitted, biting the inside of her cheek. "I'm not very good, but I'd like to be. And -- wait, you can fight with a knife? Like a little one?"

"I'm not as good with my knives as I should be," she mused. "I mostly use mine for more practical, non-combative purposes." She gave him a curious look, and remarked, "You're a lot more dangerous than you look, Wesley."

Katniss smiled at him for that, because she liked that she was still, apparently, able to catch people off guard with her abilities. It had served her well in the Games, and would probably do so here, too. "It was meant to be a compliment," she assured him. "Don't worry. I don't mean I'm particularly afraid of you, or anything. But you look like you'd be more at home with a book in your hands than a weapon. It's surprising. And good," she added, "because the element of surprise is invaluable. Trust me."

"It's just interesting," she remarked, curious about the 'part of my heritage' part. "And you're still first on my list when I need to know something obscure and...you know, bookish. Since my interests basically revolve around shooting things and eating. Less complementary and useful."

[hee, Katniss's bow is coming to life, if I end up doing anything. We did it a couple years ago, too, and I had Kaylee's wrench come alive, as well as Rory's coffeemaker and Robin's hockey stick. :D]

"I'll tell you all the bark and berries you can actually eat," she said with a small smile. "You never know when you'll have to actually use those skills."

Katniss had actually been making a joke, (barring an actual lost-in-the-woods emergency) considering the whole 'spoiled British kid' angle, she but was more than happy to be serious about the offer. "Sure. I've gotten very good at recognizing the edible from the poisonous. I haven't found any here yet," she admitted, "but a katniss is actually a type of edible plant -- you can eat the roots." She blushed, just a little, and sheepishly added, "My father named my sister and me after plants. Always said that as long as I could find myself, I wouldn't go hungry."
