Toffee Campfire, Friday Early Evening

The sun wasn't quite down yet, no, but Jono had gone through the pains of lighting a campfire (the good old-fashioned way, yes) and had made himself comfortable not too far off.

There was something about watching a fire with a smile on his face that he could totally get used to, he decided.

Well, that and S'mores. He could totally get used to S'mores, too.

You better believe that he was enjoying himself this evening, roasting marshmallows and singing. Loudly. He didn't even need to pull out his guitars for that!

Better with it today than he would have been yesterday! He wasn't about to, oh, accidentally light her on fire or anything like that, after all.

So, naturally, he was laughing as he toppled backward. He hadn't really been expecting the hug, and so he hadn't really braced for it or anything.

"I'm going to get grass in my hair this way, you realize."

"You can tell everyone you were pounced by a cute girl," she suggested, pulling away from him and brushing herself off. "Except Didi. And probably Squall. Oh, wow, you're smiling. Do you know how weird that is? I mean, not just the face part of it, you're actually wanting to."

[furnaceface]

"I've had reason t'smile before," Jono protested, but lightly as he sat him and started to pick grass from his shoulders. "Maybe not often, but I did."

Honest!

"Occasionally," Rinoa allowed. "Does this mean you're going to be perky now? Do I get to be the grouchy one?"

He should have expected teasing, from her.

[furnaceface]

"Of course not," Jono chuckled, lifting a hand to cover his grin. "I'm having a good evening, is all. I'll be back to my old, insufferable self in no time, I'm certain."

Too much happy was tiring, or something. Right?

"Then I'll just have to hug you again," Rinoa said. "You know? Smiling looks good on you."

[furnaceface]

"Yes, and apparently I've got good teeth," Jono added.

It was completely relevant. Hush.

"You know," he added, after a moment, "it's... weird. Being almost normal again, like this."

Rinoa considered making a joke, but instead took a moment to seat herself and ponder that.

"Do you miss it?" she asked. Honest curiosity. If someone took away her powers, she'd be relieved, but ......

She hated that there was a 'but.'

Jono looked up at her, raised an eyebrow, and then twitched the faintest smile.

//Not,// he sent, //for a heartbeat.//

What he looked like and what he could do, after all, were two very different things.

She smiled, then, one hand reaching for her rings without her even realizing it.

"Good for you," she said, firmly. Meaning it. Wondering if she'd say the same, or if maybe something wasn't ... quite ... right with her.

She cleared her throat and tried for a more chipper tone. "Now you just have to worry about getting bored."

[furnaceface]

"Mmm," Jono replied, using his throat and voice all over again. "I can see how I might get bored easily. Kissing my girlfriend, eating sweets until I throw up. It's going to be a difficult life from here on, I must say. I have no idea how I'll possibly get on."

"You could make an art of brushing and flossing," Rinoa suggested. "Learn to play the harmonica, if that goes dull."

[furnaceface]

"Don't even joke about flossing," Jono warned with a grin. "I've missed flossing. Who th'hell misses flossing?"

"Someone who hasn't had teeth in a while," Rinoa said, smiling back at him. "Buy extra floss. Experiment with flavors."
