Locust campfire- Thursday night

This was really weird.

Jaina didn't have the anxious, jittery feeling in the cabins that she used to. Some closure and time had done some good there. No, the weird part was that she was still in the cabins again. But it was this or singing insects and she'd already screamed at them twice before the announcement, so she figured she was fighting a losing battle there. It was just very strange going back to something she'd thought was fun at sixteen and then circumstances had sort of ruined the fun part.

Still, she could deal with it, and it wasn't going to stop her from getting a fire going and bringing out the makings for s'mores when she was pretty sure it wasn't going to be raining. When you'd been deprived of chocolate as long as she had, you found reasons to have it.

Loki was used to a big apartment. Getting shoved into a small, tiny alcove was not on and he was not happy.

"Didn't you take my class before?" he asked, tone and expression cranky.

"Was there a lot of cursing? Then yes I did," she said. He was one of the few that had managed to annoy her into snapping in class, too!

"Then why the fuck are you down here?" Loki asked. He, obviously, didn't keep up with the goings on of a lot of people in town. "Aren't you like twelve?"

"Twenty-seven," she corrected. "Welcome to Fandom, that happens here. Thanks for assuming younger, though."

"Yeah, I'm like a fucking thousand," he said, sitting down grumpily, "and I don't need the Fandom lecture. This fucking island ate me for like four days.:

"That has been the news of the week," Jaina said, tossing him the bag of marshmallows. "Junk food will make it all better. You'll forget all about dimensional rifts, really. You look good for a thousand, by the way."

Dani was not pleased to be sleeping in a cabin, but after being kept awake all night by insects, she had slept all afternoon. Feeling a little bit better, she ventured out in search of food.

She paused as she passed the campfire. "Are those s'mores?" she asked. "I don't think I've had those in ages."

"Oooh, compliments," he said, snagging the marshmallows out of the air and snickering. "You must really want some company."

"They are. I have a theory the more you have, the faster the Celine Dion songs leave your head," Jaina told her. It was a horrifically incorrect theory, but that was not the point.

Yeah, kind of, not that she was admitting that. Especially since the 'I's were so much easier today and it bothered her. "Well, I'd have said a couple hundred at the most. Just telling it like I see it."

"May I join you, then?" asked Dani. "If I ever hear another Celine Dion song, I may go out of my mind. It was bad enough that one of her songs was the theme for my high school prom."

"Try being gremlin-bitten into thinking you're her," she said dryly. "But sit, let the s'mores do their job."

"Yeah, I'm sure I really look a couple centuries old," he said and rolled his eyes. "I don't age, I'm fucking immortal and that includes wrinkles and fucking crows' feet."

"What about regular crows' feet?" Oh, Jaina, don't taunt the guy crankier than you.

"Oh, that wouldn't be good," said Dani, taking a seat. "I've only been bitten once, and that time I thought I was a singing banana. I don't think I've ever lived down the humiliation."

"You want me to smite you?" Loki asked. Not that he had the ability to do that but still.

"It gets easier the more you get bit," Jaina assured her, passing over some of the s'more ingredients. "Or so I hear." Ha.

Jaina shrugged. "It'd be fun to watch you try," she replied.

"Lucky for you, I don't really care that much," he said, taking a few marshmallows out of the bag. "Enjoying cabin life?"

"This seems awfully odd," Price said, sitting down at the campfire. He has a pack of six bottles of British lager with him, which he held out. "But then, better than those awful bugs."

"You've been bitten more than once?" asked Dani with a sympathetic look on her face as she helped herself to some chocolate, marshmallows and graham crackers. "It must be awful!"

"Hmm. Give it a day before I can answer that," Jaina advised. "Today's 'No, it's fine' might be tomorrow's 'Sorry for the bloodshed.' Hopefully there will be no bloodshed."

"Bloodshed?" he asked, interested now. "I could help you with that. I used to kill people for a living."

"I still do," Jaina said lightly, though that didn't make it true. Hi, veteran of two wars now. And since after what, six years, she had no idea if she knew the answer, she asked, "What kind of job was that?"

"Jaina Solo. I'm a Skywalker," she said, figuring that might explain it right there.

Also, thank the Force the 'we's were less frequent today because if she'd added one to that sentence....
