Fourth Floor Common Room - Wednesday Morning

There was something decidedly unkingly about sitting on a couch in sweatpants, a t-shirt and socks while eating cereal and watching cartoons. That didn't stop Edmund. He'd been here far too long and was developing bad habits. Relaxing, comfortable, bad habits.

"Yeah, but they're all boring. Not a lot of hunters have families. Even less of those stay put in the one place their whole lives."

"Not everyone who's not a hunter is boring," Edmund chided her. "Maybe you'll run into some worthwhile people on your road trip. You travel far enough and you always find someone interesting."

"I know," Jo admitted grudgingly. "But I can't be honest with most of them. All the kids I went to grade school with think my dad was a travelling salesman."

"For every hundred that think you're mad, you may find one who believes you."

"But they're probably the crazy ones."

"Then you'll fit right in," he said, giving her a smile.

Jo snorted. "Speaking from experience?"

"You have to be a little mad to live as we do."

"Only a little?"

"Too mad and you end up like the really crazy people. We toe a fine line."

"Or dance along it, weeks like the other one."

"I think we'd be on the far side of the line if we'd sat inside and not done anything."

"Good thing we didn't, then."

"You needn't sound so heartbroken. We'll find other ways to go completely mad."

"Like watching cartoons until our brains rot?"

"Personally, I'm about halfway there already."

"Well, I was't going to say anything, but..."

"I think there might be an extraordinary amount of sugar in this cereal that's helping me along. I'll need a good hike to work it out of my system."

"Alone?" Jo asked, innocently.

"Unless you know of someone who feels like a trek through the Preserve and a packed lunch."

"As a matter of fact I do, Jet loves a packed lunch."

"You wouldn't leave me alone with Jet," Edmund mock-scoffed. "He can't be trusted."

Jo sighed dramatically. "I suppose could come along to keep an eye on him."

"I would appreciate it more than you know. Want to get going before it gets too warm?"

Jo nodded. "All that sugar, you'll need a long walk."
