Fourth Floor Common Room, Monday Night

George was bored. And so George went to one of those common rooms, picked up the remote, and began channel-surfing.

One station was re-running the movie Hint, and nothing else seemed to be on, so she was going to go with it.

She rummaged in the kitchen to find microwaveable popcorn and settled in for the movie. People could join her, if they felt like it. It was a common room and all.

"And what does this have to do with the film?" Elphaba asked, trying to follow along with what George was explaining.

"They made it into a movie," George said, nodding at the screen. "By creating actual characters and adding a plot."

Which sounded ridiculous, yes.

"The people they got to do this are really funny. I think that's why it works."

"They make odd things into films," Elphaba said, thinking about the one Kate had mentioned. A film she intended never to see.

"They are like plays, then. But... tiny."

"I think plays are more serious," George mused. Well, her dad taught Shakespeare, so. "Movies are just -- sometimes they're just filled with effects and explosions and kind of stupid, but they're good for mindless entertainment."

"Oh, how wonderful," Elphaba said, her tone indicating that she didn't actually like the idea of mindless entertainment. "I suppose the mindless need entertainment just as much as the rest of us."

George laughed. "Hey, sometimes you don't really want deep, stirring drama," she said. "Sometimes real life is dramatic enough."

"There seems to be quite an area between deep and stirring to mindless," Elphaba said. "Is there nothing to be found in between?"

It seemed somewhat foolish to only have two extremes.

"Plenty," George said. "That doesn't make either end wrong."
