2nd Floor Common Room, Tuesday Evening

Will had a stackful of books with him but they were, rather uncharacteristically, being ignored as he'd figured out how to turn on the television device. Rather by accident, as he'd done so by sitting on the small rectangular box with the push-buttons.

Tentative poking at the buttons had caused the picture to change rapidly, which was interesting and he did want to find out more about how it was possible to control a device remotely but the second he'd caught sight of a room full of machinery on the screen, he stopped pressing the buttons and settled in to watch a truly fascinating programme. As it turned out, this particular episode happened to be about 'carburetors', which were apparently a key component in the mechanised vehicles like the one he'd ridden to the school on.

Ariel was heading back to her room after work and visiting Jono, in an excellent mood because there was singing and making things right with Christian again, when she remembered, in passing the second floor, that Rilla had mentioned that other boy from Canada lived on that floor and since she had made it her personal mission to hook them up, she was going to take a moment to poke her head into the common room.

And look! There was someone who was new! There were too many people in the crowd for Ariel to have known who Rilla had pointed out for sure, but this was a good start.

"Hi!" she said brightly, bouncing in and taking a seat on the couch. "What are we watching?"

Okay, that? Was kind of cute, and Ariel couldn't help grinning at the incredibly delayed response.

"What's a carburetor?" she asked and, despite herself, was actually inclined to turn some of her attention to the TV as well. After all, with a name like that, it had to be something really interesting, and, from what she had gleaned from the program in the awkward silence, she was kind of right.

Since there was a lack of mute people in the room, Blackagar just so happened to wander on in. Perhaps in search of food, perhaps in search of entertainment. Who knows?

He nodded toward William as a greeting.

Hey, look! It was....that one guy!

Ariel couldn't remember his name, so shoot her. All she remembered was that they had a bunch of classes together and used to be in the same no-talking boat. Not anymore, of course, but, not one to want to rub it in, she decided not to vocally greet him, but just gave him a bright smile and a wave of greeting.

Because mute solidarity was shattered. Shattered beyond any chance of repair, Ariel. How could you?

Not that he was aware of any changes, though.

So she got a wave and smile combination right on back.

Considering Blackagar still thought commercials were small stories of happiness, this might be for the best.

Not recognizing the fellow, and not automatically being called 'Dan' could only mean this man was new. Or old and a hermit. Both were valid options.

He offered a card of:

Hello, my name is Blackagar and I am unable to speak.

Ah, a tried and true method.

The second floor was on the way to the fifth floor, all right? There was a perfectly legitimate reason for Rilla to be here.

"Hello!" she said, trying very hard not to lisp.

"Well thpotted," she teased, smiling back.

...and lisping. Well, another perfect moment ruined forever.

"Rilla!"

Of course Ariel was going to be incredibly excited to see the newest addition to BFF status, now that she didn't have to worry about Rilla stealing her options of men for kissing.

Elphaba entered the common room and sighed a little.

"I am still not sure why everyone loves these films and televisions," Elphaba remarked, a frown on her face.

Whoa! That girl's skin was almost the same color as her fin!

That was kind of crazy, but kind of cool. She smiled at the girl who she could only assume was new.

"Hi, there. You're new, aren't you?"

Green skin!

...look, it was something familiar and comforting for anyone from Germany. Totally Germany. Where the Germans lived.

Blackagar waved in greeting, offering a friendly smile as well.

"You're green," Rilla stammered.

Bruce being Bruce, the first thing that caught his eye when he walked into the common room were the books. "What are you reading?" Bruce asked whoever was going to answer. It was a more interesting question to him than asking about the carburetors. After all, he knew how it was made already.

It was the sound of the television that drew Sara in, more than anything else. It certainly wasn't the prospect of cooking; she wouldn't be that cruel to anyone.

"Oh, hello," she said with a graceful wave of her hand as she entered. "Are there any interesting new stories to be had out of that box tonight?"

[identity profile] willbethenight.livejournal.com 2010-09-01 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
"It's not really a story. More like an overview of an instruction manual," Bruce said.

"Oh, that show." Zatanna had probably learned a good deal of things from that one show. She had probably forgot half of them already, but, totally not the point!

"And they have terrible puns." Which she totally loved, of course.

[identity profile] willbethenight.livejournal.com 2010-09-01 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
"You watch it often?" Bruce asked, giving Zatanna a nod as greeting. He still wasn't completely sure how familiar to be with her, but he felt the nod was safe.
