2nd Floor Common Room, Tuesday Evening
Will had a stackful of books with him but they were, rather uncharacteristically, being ignored as he'd figured out how to turn on the television device. Rather by accident, as he'd done so by sitting on the small rectangular box with the push-buttons.
Tentative poking at the buttons had caused the picture to change rapidly, which was interesting and he did want to find out more about how it was possible to control a device remotely but the second he'd caught sight of a room full of machinery on the screen, he stopped pressing the buttons and settled in to watch a truly fascinating programme. As it turned out, this particular episode happened to be about 'carburetors', which were apparently a key component in the mechanised vehicles like the one he'd ridden to the school on.

And look! There was someone who was new! There were too many people in the crowd for Ariel to have known who Rilla had pointed out for sure, but this was a good start.
"Hi!" she said brightly, bouncing in and taking a seat on the couch. "What are we watching?"

"Oh, hello, Miss," he greeted Ariel. "I'm sorry, my mind was elsewhere," he gestured at the screen. "How a carburetor is made," he explained.
no subject
"What's a carburetor?" she asked and, despite herself, was actually inclined to turn some of her attention to the TV as well. After all, with a name like that, it had to be something really interesting, and, from what she had gleaned from the program in the awkward silence, she was kind of right.

He nodded toward William as a greeting.

Ariel couldn't remember his name, so shoot her. All she remembered was that they had a bunch of classes together and used to be in the same no-talking boat. Not anymore, of course, but, not one to want to rub it in, she decided not to vocally greet him, but just gave him a bright smile and a wave of greeting.
no subject
Not that he was aware of any changes, though.
So she got a wave and smile combination right on back.

"Hello there," he said, in reply to the nod.

Not recognizing the fellow, and not automatically being called 'Dan' could only mean this man was new. Or old and a hermit. Both were valid options.
He offered a card of:
Hello, my name is Blackagar and I am unable to speak.
Ah, a tried and true method.

"Hello!" she said, trying very hard not to lisp.

Oh, Kon would be so proud.

...and lisping. Well, another perfect moment ruined forever.

Of course Ariel was going to be incredibly excited to see the newest addition to BFF status, now that she didn't have to worry about Rilla stealing her options of men for kissing.

"I am still not sure why everyone loves these films and televisions," Elphaba remarked, a frown on her face.

He still wanted to know whether the green tone of her skin was make-up or some affliction, but even he knew such a question when they barely knew each other would be rather rude.

That was kind of crazy, but kind of cool. She smiled at the girl who she could only assume was new.
"Hi, there. You're new, aren't you?"

...look, it was something familiar and comforting for anyone from Germany. Totally Germany. Where the Germans lived.
Blackagar waved in greeting, offering a friendly smile as well.
