Fifth Floor Common Room [evening]

Sookie had Top Model on in the background as she whistled tunelessly in the kitchen. Idle hands had made her restless, and tonight found her making a dish of brownies to enjoy in front of the television. (With sprinkles!)

There was a certain irony to the evening, to baking something to eat while watching a show about the ultra-tall and thin, but Sookie didn't really care. Mostly she was giving herself something to do, and hoping that if the squeal of girls didn't draw people in, the smell of chocolate would.

Despite the fact that Bruce didn't like the show that was on and wasn't one for junk food, Bruce decided to stop into the common room on his way back to his dorm. Why? Natural curiosity.

"Are those bought or homemade?" Bruce checked.

"Bite your tongue," Sookie said with a smile. "They're homemade. I don't buy baked goods if I can help it. They're too easy to make."

"Maybe for some people," Bruce said. "But then there are those of us who appreciate the time and effort other people put into it so we don't have to."

"Yeah, some people shouldn't be allowed near a kitchen," Sookie agreed, holding out the plate of brownies. "But your appreciation is...well, appreciated. Help yourself."

"Those smell divine," Rilla proclaimed as she tripped lightly into the common room.

Rilla waved at Bruce as she blushed. "How's your scarf coming?" she asked.

"Don't be offended if I only take one," Bruce said, grabbing one of the brownies. "My training doesn't really allow for too much snacking."

"I'll be flattered instead that you made an exception in your normal diet for one of my brownies," Sookie said with a smile.

"And you can even taste them, too, Rilla," Sookie said with a smile. "I won't limit you to just smelling."

"It's done, but I can't say it went very well," Bruce said. "The second one actually looks like a scarf, though."

Of course he had already finished a second one. And a sweater that he would never be caught dead wearing. Look, it had been a boring week without classes. He was better now.

"You've been quite industrious," Rilla said. "I look forward to the weather changing so I can see your handiwork."

"And that is why you're my very favourite Sookie," Rilla declared, skipping over. "Thank you."

"Do you know other Sookies?" she wondered. She was pretty sure she was the only one in Fandom, anyway.

"Flattering people is one of my gifts," Bruce said before taking a bite. "It's really good."

"Well, no," Rilla had to admit, "but you have given me chocolate, so even if I did you would be my favourite."

"I'm not sure it's good enough to show off in public," Bruce said. Too much of a perfectionist, Bruce. "I'll probably stick to something nice I can buy."

Like Bruce, Spock did not care for this show or for junk food, but he happened to find himself in the common room because I said so for no particular reason. "Good evening," he said politely, casting a wary eye at the madness on the television.

"Hi!" Sookie said cheerfully. She almost offered him a brownie before remembering a long-ago common room where Spock had said he couldn't have chocolate. Seemed cruel to offer him some, in that case. "How're you tonight?"

"Thank you. How've you been?" she asked. Sookie belatedly realized that the last time she'd seen Bruce had been in Rapture, but dismissed that thought before it could really come to fruition.

"I'd offer you a scarf I made, but they're fairly knobbly," Rilla said, wrinkling up her nose apologetically.

"I'm glad your affections can be bought," Sookie said with a giggle. "I'll just be sure to keep you in baked goods."

The smell of chocolate was indeed a powerful draw, bringing William all the way up from the second floor to investigate.

"Is this your handiwork?" he asked upon entering the room.

"It is," Sookie said cheerfully, holding out the plate. "Help yourself, hon."

That that was the cause of Bruce's curiosity in the first place. "I've been busy. Between classes, training, and a little bit of recovery after... certain events, it's hard to be anything but that sometimes."

"Don't worry about it. I can probably budget a few dollars for a scarf that didn't cause either one of us any frustration," Bruce said.
