Reserves: Behind the Dorms, Tuesday After Classes [9/14]

Instead of the nearly usual coffee, there was a bend to the whims of the other leaders of the reserve and it was a large selection of mocha lattes. Yes, with a lot of whipped cream. Happy now, Zack?

"Welcome back," Maladicta said, under her umbrella ella ella once again as she addressed the group. "Today we're going to be talking about methods for escaping capture using whatever is available to you at the moment or your own natural abilities."

Like turning into the ever cliche bats!

Zack couldn't turn into bats, but he suspected that he'd totally find a way to escape capture if ever he was in a situation that warranted it. It would probably take him a while, depending on the situation, but sooner or later...

"It's really hard to say just what sort of capture you might face, on an island like this. But the simplest one for us to work with here and now would be the ever classic... Being tied up," Zack intoned, bouncing and smiling and yes, totally happy because his mocha had whipped cream and life was good and he was stupidly high on sugar. "Ropes and handcuffs and all of that!"

Oh, sure, bring up the natural abilities thing. Kennedy at least got to keep the annoyed look off her face by smothering an amused smirk at Zack. "Not like that, guys." Oh, you know someone was thinking it.

...someone other than Kennedy, because that was a given.

"Not like what?" Oh, Zack. You knew better, you silly boy. Stop playing dumb. "Aaaanyhow, today we've got some chairs set out, and some rope, and some handcuffs and stuff to experiment with. Pair off with someone and take turns tying one another to the chair, and trying to get free! Wriggling helps, I've heard! And, uh, if somebody is having trouble getting out, have a heart and let them go if they ask, okay? We're not here to traumatize anyone, just to get some practise in on the chance that we end up in some sticky situation."

Knowing Fandom, it could be literally sticky. But as someone who'd gotten tied to a chair not all that long ago herself, Kennedy spoke up, "And it's cool if you want to, uh, sit this one out today."

Maladicta was giving Zack a very concerned look for that last comment there, but was just going to ignore it for now. Square Enix sure was dirty! "If anyone has tips beside... wriggling... please feel free to share with your compatriots."

Zack was there, and with a length of rope in one hand, wondering if he should have a go at this, himself.

In the other hand, of course, there was a mocha with an ungodly amount of sugar in it. And in his pocket? Cookies. Naturally. He was not going to sugar-crash before this meeting ended if he could at all help it.

If Alexander had been aware that Zack had been behind the mochas, he'd be faintly convinced that Zack was trying to singlehandedly kill him with sugar. What with after the whole cake thing, and all.

As it was, though, he was sipping the mocha, liking it, but deciding to find out if Maladicta thought it was a sacrilege to coffee before confirming an opinion.

Either way, this should definitely be an...interesting meeting and sparked other thoughts of how it was a wonder that Mannanan had never actually tied him up. Probably because a boy couldn't clean bedpans if he was tied up.

NOW I HAVE TO EAT THOSE BURRITOS IN THE FREEZER IN DEDICATION OF THIS POST, DON'T I?

This was new. Everything here was new, of course, but the sweetness of the drink that had been all darkness and bitter before, that was new enough to bring Cally back for a second cup, which she sipped a bit more slowly than the first as she listened.

Cally was perfectly willing to be tied up - though mentally echoing Zack's 'Not like what?' She did have her doubts as to how her own natural abilities might be helpful in this case, though. She took a seat on one of the chairs, her second mocha still in hand.

What? It was good.

Before he even considered looking for someone to work with, Alexander was inspecting a pair of handcuffs. They were a bit like shackles, but much shinier, a little less sinister-seeming, and he figured he'd better understand how they worked before he went and got himself tra--

--pped.

"Uh-oh."

Alexander tugged his arms apart slightly, but they only went so far. Somehow, he'd actually managed to get himself locked up in them. He gave them a little tug, turned bright red, and wondered if it was too late to play it off as intentional.

Yep, Kennedy was here. Duh. Her mocha had an indecent amount of whipped cream on it, if you could see that under the heavy coating of chocolate sprinkles, and she looked way too pleased with herself for her part in this whole mocha thing.

Aw, yeah.

Kurt hung by his tail from a branch and sipped a latte. Because he could.

And then he discovered that drinking while upside-down wasn't a very good idea, when some of it went up his nose. "AAAAAAUGH! HOT HOT HOT!!!"

Wesley was hardly one to laugh, given that, had he attempted this exercise, he almost certainly would have ended up in a similar situation. He did crack a smile, though, and tried to look away before he got serious again. "Er. Would you like some assistance?" he offered.

Squall liked his coffee black. Plain. If you added too much cream and sugar, it wasn't really coffee anymore, and so what was the point?

At least, that's what he kept telling himself as he polished off his second latte and reached for a third. It was NOT FAIR of them to taste so good.

"Er, well," said Alexander, taking a moment to see how well his hands could twist inside the rings on his wrists. Long gone were the days where he was so thin from lack of food that they would probably fall right off.

"I am not entirely sure," he said. "Too much assistance, I feel, might negate the idea behind the exercise of getting oneself out of such a situation, but, on that measure, if you have any advice....these are a bit different from the simple iron shackles I am more familiar with..."

Squall sat down in the chair and glared at people, daring them to do their worst. This would be a useful thing to practice.

Whoa there. More than he needed to know.

"Oh," he said, pretending not to have heard that last part. "Well. You might check if there is some sort of - er - safety catch?"

Not like he'd ever played with handcuffs or anything.

Dolf had decided that if he wanted to function well as a leader of a sub-group, he should know everything there was to know about the other sub-group. If this place was invaded as much as they said, he'd need to know who the fighters were, and what they did.

That... didn't keep him from frowning a little at the assignment, and making thankful use of the excuse to take a step back from it.

"Hi," Dolf said, in an entirely creative turn of phrase, and stepped up next to her. "So you've found the reserves."

More than anyone needed to know was all too often a theme of any conversation with Alexander, really.

He frowned at the cuffs as he considered Wesley's suggestion. "Safety catch?"

Scully hated being tied up by now, but was also fairly confident in her ability to get the heck out of ropes or handcuffs if she had to.

She hadn't put down her mocha either yet. "Hi. I'm Scully. Are you ready to be tied up now? ... unless you want to finish your mocha first."

The mochas were made of joy. And caffeine. The idea of being tied up.... Well. It was a good thing she wasn't at all prone to PTSD.

"Dolf, hello." She might have been flustered enough not to ask his name when they met in the stairwell, but she'd certainly caught it at the meeting he'd led last week. "I have. Both sets of them; your demonstration last week was very interesting."

Given how little she'd known about the local flora, it might at some point verge from interesting into lifesaving, in fact.
