Second Floor Common Room; Monday Afternoon

It wasn't Shira's common room, but that wasn't stopping her from plopping herself down on a couch and flipping through the TV channels.

People could make her leave if they didn't want her there. The second floor was just more interesting today.

Even if what was on the television was even more boring, if possible, than anything she'd watched before.

[Open as common rooms are!]

It definitely wasn't Ariel's common room, either, but she was feeling anxious; she wanted it to be tomorrow to find out about the play, and she wanted it to be later in the week for clubs and Monday was just too long sometimes so she figured it was a good chance for exploring. First, the common rooms, and, if nothing interesting was going on there, she'd hit up the junkyard for the day and see if there might be anything particularly shiny there.

"Oh, hi!" she said, smiling at the girl already there. "Anything interesting on TV?"

This was Karla's common room, though she didn't mind other people stopping in. For one thing, more people usually meant more food and when was Karla going to turn that down.

"Kiss kiss," she called, sticking her head in the room. "I don't suppose anyone's making lunch plans?"

"It's hard to find something good in the afternoons," Ariel said with sympathetic agreement. "I think they do it on purpose, because they're all, 'hey, it's the afternoon, you should go out and have fun and not just sit and watch TV!'"

She shrugged, flopping into a chair anyway because she figured she'd go and do that shortly enough. She was tilting her head thoughtfully at the other girl, trying to figure out if she was as unfamiliar as she seemed.

"Have we met before?" she finally just asked. "Do you live on this floor? I'm all the way up on the fifth floor, so maybe I just miss you a lot."

"I ate in class," Ariel responded, tilting her head back and smiling at Karla. "But I wouldn't be opposed to more. I don't think anyone would want me making it, though."

"I'm in favor of--Hell's fire, you're a Black Widow!"

See Karla stare. Stare, Karla, stare.

"Me neither," Karla admitted reluctantly. "I'm really good at baking, but I'm still pretty abysmal at cooking real food."

Considering her last attempt at a casserole involved an exploding kitchen, 'pretty abysmal' might still be an understatement.

Well, that all depended on how you looked at it. For eating purposes, sure, abysmal worked, but for the experience of it? Ariel might beg to differ.

"Sandwich run?" she offered with a grin. "I could probably go for sandwiches."

"Oh, no kidding?" asked Ariel. "Which room? I'm in 517."

This seemed to be slumming day, as Leda was a native of the fifth floor herself. Her arm was still in a sling, but at least her shoulder was not aching and itching quite as bad as it had been.

"What's on?"

Leda grinned upon seeing Ariel, and signed; I hear you can talk now.

Ignoring the sudden prickles in the other witch's psychic scent, Karla beamed at her. "What, like I'm going to miss a Sister of the Hourglass?" she asked, waving the idea away as being very silly. Crossing into the room, she held her hands out, palms down, offering the other witch a greeting. "Another Sister! Cassidy's going to be so pleased!"

The High Lord probably wouldn't, but only because he was going to despair at the thought of three witches wreaking havoc on Fandom.

"Ooh, sandwiches might be good," Karla said, nodding. "I wonder if Luke's delivers. I could kind of go for fries today, too."

[identity profile] shes-got-legs.livejournal.com 2010-09-27 06:34 pm (UTC)(link)
"I don't know if they do," Ariel admitted, tilting her head and looking thoughtful. "Although I wouldn't mind making the trip. I have too much energy today and not enough to put it into anyway."

[identity profile] shes-got-legs.livejournal.com 2010-09-27 06:35 pm (UTC)(link)
"Ah, maybe that's just it then," she sad with a light laugh. " At other ends of the hallway! My name's Ariel, by the way, maybe we'll see each other more now! What brought you all the way down here today?"

"She's another Queen, from Dharo," Karla explained, still grinning. "What Territory are you from? Oh, this is wonderful! I haven't had anyone to properly talk about Black Widow training in ages!" She tugged out her hourglass pendant, the sand split evenly between the top and bottom. "I'm still only a journeyman, are you? We can perhaps study together, then? I would hate to make the Offering without being fully-trained."

Karla finally realized she was babbling and stopped for a moment to give Shira a chance to respond.

"And you wind up meeting someone from your actual floor," Ariel noted with amusement. "I'm just antsy, myself. Too many exciting things going on later in the week, but I've got to get through Monday first. Sometimes, I swear, they seem to last forever."

Karla glanced at the clock on the microwave. "I'm going to have to head into work soon," she said, estimating times and distances and the speed of travel. It was like doing a word problem for her mathematics tutor. "I wouldn't have time to come back if we decided to go to Luke's, but I wouldn't mind heading down early for lunch."
