Bobby thought there might be a football game on today. Not that he had any idea how football worked or who was playing, but at his old school, people usually talked about 'watching the game,' and Bobby thought if he had it on, people might show up and then he could hang out with them! This plan had no possibility of failing!

It was just too bad that his act of 'watching the game' was quickly blown as Bobby got engrossed in his world history textbook and forgot to pay any attention at all to the men in spandex on TV. He did have popcorn though. With chocolate chips mixed in it which made it the best kind.

Elphaba was on the 'wrong' floor.

Elphaba didn't much care.

"I think I like the fact you're not actually watching the TV," she remarked to Bobby.

"It's -" Bobby fumbled his book a little before realising just what she had said. "Yeah, I don't really get football."

"It's a sport, I take it," Elphaba said, glancing at her nemesis the television. "The sort of thing that makes toned bodies and vacant heads. And is really just people pretending to wage tiny wars where no one dies."

"I don't know if it makes toned bodies," Bobby said doubtfully as he eyed the television too. "Football players are like 300 pounds. But you're right about the stupid wars. They just hit each other a lot."

"Of course they do," Elphaba said. "That's what good sporting men do." She rolled her eyes. "Munchkins are much the same way. I think they're compensating for something."

He snickered at her words. "You sound like my mom." The tone made it clear this was a compliment to Bobby.

Elphaba smirked. "And your mother is a good woman, I hope?"

"My mom is awesome," Bobby said instantly. "You can meet her this weekend! Um. if you wanted to. She's coming for Parents' Weekend."

"I would like to," Elphaba said. "I... do not have anyone visiting me, sadly." Her smirk changed to a slight frown. "Sorry."

"Why are you sorry? It's not your fault," he pointed out. "Well, I guess, it is if you told them not to come, but that's your choice, you know?"

Elphaba looked slightly uncomfortable. "It isn't that they were not told," she said. "I really do wish they were coming, I have missed them very much. But I feel as if I may be one of the few that has no one come."

"Oh." Bobby considered that, not wanting to make her more uncomfortable. "Well, the good part is that means that no one can yell at you for living with a girl or going on field trips without permission slips? Maybe it's better if they don't. I mean, other than the missing part."

"You live with a girl?" Elphaba said, changing the subject. She didn't want to dwell on it. "Any one I know?"

"Maybe? Leda. She does magic, I guess," he explained. "It's weird though. Mom's going to be all upset, and then Jack's going to be pissed and...it's too late for her to make us go home though."

He said that like he was trying to convince himself.

"Well, it isn't your fault," Elphaba said. "Perhaps you can forget to mention it to your mother?"

She did that with her father a lot.

"Oh, she won't be mad at me," Bobby said quickly. "But she might yell at the principal a lot."

"Well, then you have nothing to worry about," Elphaba said. "Though I'll understand if you don't rush her over to meet me."

It was hard to explain his mother to people who didn't know her, but Bobby realised Elphaba had a point. "Do you want some popcorn?" he offered, holding out the bowl. "I mixed chocolate chips in it."

Elphaba chuckled. "Getting your daily nutrition, I see," she said, taking a handful for herself. "Thank you. Have you been well, Bobby?"

"Very good!" he replied happily. "It's awesome here, you know? And I love all my classes and my teachers and..." he stopped short, realising he was being a total nerd. "What about you?"

Jason didn't have much interest in football either, but he was interested in checking up on mini!him, if that was in fact Bobby buried behind that book. "Hey. What are you reading?" he asked, coming inside.

"Hi Jason!" Bobby said, giving him a grin. He looked down at his book sheepishly. "Um. I'm studying? It's my history book."

Jason made a face, but it was more at the book than at Bobby. "Is that a class you have tomorrow, or are you already studying from today?"

"It's an online class," he admitted. "I have to take a chapter test soon."

Next Friday to be exact. He was a little ahead. "I have spaceships class tomorrow!"

"Do they have spaceships in your time?" Jason asked. "I mean, the kinds of spaceships that it seems like they talk about in a class like that."

"Not at all," Bobby said, his eyes wide with delight. "It's so awesome. I mean, I've just played computer games forever and I started a space club at my old school, but we got to fly a spacefighter last week!"

"And that's cool to you?" Jason asked, trying to understand. "Did you have a big space club at your old school?" It was hard to imagine lots and lots of Bobbys running around a school.

"Well, no," he admitted. "It was kinda just my friend Warren and I."

"You probably could have gotten more than that if you made the club here. It seems like there's a lot of space nerds around," Jason said. "Uh, no offense. You know, nerd in a good way."
