4th Floor Common Room [Tuesday afternoon]

Proto had an actual cookbook out. He was staring at it dubiously, and with a mild expression of confusion, but he had it out, dang it! Of course he didn't recognize a number of ingredients listed on the page he had open, and he wasn't entirely clear on how one properly 'sautéed' things, but he was going to try.

Though... any help would probably be appreciated.

[Open and all that stuff.]

William was probably going to be of no help whatsoever when it came to cooking anything. But that wasn't going to stop him from wandering in to the common room, nose buried in a French textbook.

"Ah, good afternoon," he greeted when he spotted others in the room.

"Are you having some trouble?" William felt compelled to ask. He wasn't sure what assistance he could provide, were that the case, but it seemed only polite to ask.

William opened his mouth to say that that did rather sound like trouble, actually. "...I don't suppose this recipe you're attempting involves onions?" he asked as glanced over at the other boy's book to see what the instructions in question were.

Not especially, aside from the fact that he was feeling particularly fond of the idea of cutting that particular vegetable up. "I'm afraid my own culinary skills are limited to chopping and peeling, but I'd be pleased to offer my assistance all the same."

"The vegetables?" William said with a raised eyebrow. "Like the aformentioned onions."

Will put his own book down out of the way before heading over to where Proto had indicated. Filling a bowl with cold water, he placed the onions in there to let them soak for a a few minutes. "What are you attempting to make?"

"Tenderloin?" William raised an eyebrow. He didn't know much about beef, but it sounded... expensive. "Well, there aren't too many steps, it seems? That's... something."

"That's about the extent of my knowledge on the subject as well." William admitted. "It's not a common dish, where I'm from." Well, it may well have been if one could afford such things, but Will certainly had never been able to.

"William Murdoch," he replied, privately wondering why so many of his fellow students seemed to have no surname. Satisfied that the onions were chilled enough to prevent the sulphuric acid from being an issue, he removed them from the water and began chopping. "There you go," he said, finishing up. "I hope that's satisfactory?"

"Hey," Makita answered, giving the other kid a wave. "How do you do that?"

If she tried to read and walk at the same time, Makita would either end up lost, or covered in bruises from walking into things.

"Do what?" William asked, and then realised what she must have been talking about, since he wasn't doing anything else at the moment. "It's a matter of spatial awareness," William admitted. "The hallways, of course, have little in the ways of obstacles. The common rooms, while not identical in every detail, do all share a similar layout, so unless someone has taken it upon themselves to redecorate, I can be fairly certain of where each piece of furniture is located and, thus, avoid it."

Well. She'd asked.

"Spatial awareness is one thing, but do you have your destination route memorized, or do you just wander?" she asked. Memorizing all the routes through the dorms would probably be a good idea, in case the power went out or she was struck blind.

"Memorised, of course," William said with a shrug. "It was something to do with myself during the abundance of free time I suddenly found I had upon arrving here."

"And do you often memorize routes so you can pace while reading?" Makita inquired. "Or just for fun?"

"For fun, I suppose," William replied after a moment's consideration. Close enough, at any rate.
