Proto had an actual cookbook out. He was staring at it dubiously, and with a mild expression of confusion, but he had it out, dang it! Of course he didn't recognize a number of ingredients listed on the page he had open, and he wasn't entirely clear on how one properly 'sautéed' things, but he was going to try.

Though... any help would probably be appreciated.

"Very interesting?" William echoed. "Oh. Yes. Quite," he managed, a bit awkwardly as he remembered that it was 'Parents Weekend' that was coming up.

"Do you know if you'll have anyone visiting?" Alexander asked. "I swear, it's all my sister can speak of in her latest letters..."

"No, I'm afraid not," William admitted, face falling a little. "There's really- no one."

Alexander felt his face go red, as well as the strong urge to take his foot and shove it into his mouth. "Oh," he said quietly, "I am so sorry, William; I did not realize."
