Proto had an actual cookbook out. He was staring at it dubiously, and with a mild expression of confusion, but he had it out, dang it! Of course he didn't recognize a number of ingredients listed on the page he had open, and he wasn't entirely clear on how one properly 'sautéed' things, but he was going to try.

Though... any help would probably be appreciated.

"...that does pose a problem," Katniss mused, frowning. "What is it you're trying to make? I might be able to help."

Not really. She was sort of a terrible cook herself.

"This," Proto answered, showing her the recipe in question (http://www.grouprecipes.com/45645/tenderloin-with-sauteed-mushrooms.html). "Which I think is supposed to be pretty easy to make?"

Yeah. He had no idea.

"What is...saw-tee?" she asked, completely mispronouncing things, yes.

"Sautee," Proto repeated, pronouncing it mostly right. "It's apparently some way of cooking things at high heat in butter." Someone had actually been paying attention to Alexander's explanation.

"It's French. Or... something."

Yeah, he didn't know either.

"Isn't that just frying?" Katniss wondered. "They're making things more complicated than they need to."

"That's what I thought!" Proto sighed.

"This isn't really my thing, I guess..."

That wasn't stopping him from trying, though.

"It's all right," she assured him with a sigh, peeking into a cupboard for something to eat. "I can barely make soup. At least you're trying."

"Soup I can do." Well, if it was in a can. "This is... different. No pointers I take it?"

"If you add enough butter, we'll be to overwhelmed by the decadence to complain," Katniss offered with something like a small smile.

"Oh, hey, now there's a good idea." Why hadn't he thought of that.

"How much is enough, do you think?"

"You're asking a girl who never had butter growing up," Katniss replied. "I say there can't be enough."

"So, like, a whole stick?" Proto asked with a laugh.
