Proto had an actual cookbook out. He was staring at it dubiously, and with a mild expression of confusion, but he had it out, dang it! Of course he didn't recognize a number of ingredients listed on the page he had open, and he wasn't entirely clear on how one properly 'sautéed' things, but he was going to try.

Though... any help would probably be appreciated.

"...in the same pot?" Jenny asked doubtfully.

Proto blinked again.

"Oh, no! I meant, you know, to go with it."

"Oh," Jenny said, relieved, as her chances of mooching a decent dinner were higher if this guy didn't think you should dump the tea in with the dinner. "It's tea. It goes with everything." She paused, then admitted, "Although, I'm English, so I would think that."

"English," Proto repeated thoughtfully. "Oh! Right! I thought I recognize the accent."

Well done, Proto.

"Do you like beef and mushrooms and onions?"

"I live with your girlfriend," Jenny said helpfully. "And employ her." Implied was her sincere hope that he would recognize the accent. "I will eat anything I don't have to cook myself."

"Oh, hey, nice to meet you." Proto scrambled to put empty his hands so he could offer one for shaking. "I'm Proto."

It was pretty obvious she knew that part.

"Yes," Jenny agreed as she shook his hand. "Are you new to the cookery, then?"

"I think that's fair to say. Or, at least, anything this fancy." And, for the record, this wasn't fancy at all.

"So...sandwiches, then?" Jenny surmised. She could do sandwiches.

"Sandwiches might be a good plan, though... I'm going to keep trying this."

It was for Makita, really.

"You do that," Jenny said.

In the meantime, she was going to rummage through the cupboards in search of someone else's food.

"If you've got any suggestions, I'm all for them. And if it turns out okay, you're welcome to some."

Jenny laughed. "Don't look at me! I can't do sweet fuck-all, I told you. Things...catch fire. Or explode." Just that one time, though.

"We should probably avoid that, yeah."

"It's generally a good idea," she agreed. "There are situations where that's appropriate, but I don't think this is one of them."

Proto laughed. "Which is too bad. I'm good at blowing things up. And setting things on fire. This," he waved at the cookbook, "is a lot more complicated."

"I wish you luck of it," she said. She'd just found a bag of crisps chips and declared it dinner.

"I appreciate that." Proto shot Jenny a last quick grin before turning back to his recipe.
