Fourth Floor Common Room | Friday Evening | 10/29

Well, this week had certainly been different for Elphaba. Today she sat on the common room couch, remote to the TV firmly in hand.

She kept changing the channel after a few moments, unable to stay on anything for more than a minute. she couldn't find anything she thought was worth actually watching. Then again, she also wasn't giving anything a true chance to impress her.

She was getting ready to give up and just go back to her room to read. But persistence would pay off, she hoped. Or perhaps someone would come in and take the television responsibility from her.

[ooc: Open common room, very open post.]

Leave it to Alexander to be searching for a book on a Friday night.

He poked his head into the common room. "Oh, Elphaba. Hello. You wouldn't happen to have seen a red leather bound book anywhere in here, have you? I believe I may have abandoned it here and not realized it until after the move."

"I believe so," said Alexander, frowning thoughtfully as he made his way into the room, and glanced toward a table. "I hope so. I cannot seem to find it anywhere."

"Yes," said Alexander with a nod. "It's a journal, of sorts. I thought I had it, but the last place I recall having it, I was here in this room."

And he was already getting to the floor to check under the couch.

"It is," Alexander admitted, reaching into the darkness underneath the couch to see if he could feel anything, but came up with only dust, "which is why I'm so shocked I have misplaced it. I've been keeping several notes and maps on this world inside of it; something has come to my attention I should like to investigate, but, alas, I must have given up on this world for others and left the notebook behind."

"It could have fallen out of my lap," Alexander offered, "and slid between them and, as you said, I got distracted. That is the only reasonable explanation, I feel; why else would I leave it, but, as I said, it wasn't anywhere in my room and I cleared out my old one quite thoroughly."

He gave a faint sigh. "I might simply have to start from scratch in the library again, but perhaps that will not be so bad. Perhaps a second round will allow me to spot something missed before."

"You make it sounds as if it was such a toil in the first place," Alexander said with a bit of a smile. "All it was was a use of time, and I'm afraid I've got plenty of that at the moment. Still, I certainly would be nice to find it."

He was now going to check over by the television.

There was a bit of a pause at that first statement, as Alexander tilted his head and realized he hadn't really thought of it from that perspective. "Well," he said, shrugging slightly, "I wouldn't exactly say that it's been wasted, and I only mean that, as long as I'm here expected to pursue my education as Mother would like, I cannot exactly use my time to go out exploring the lands as I should like based on the information I find, so I shall continue to hunt, hoping to discover something absolutely certain, so that I can convince her it is more important than school."

"That appears to be the case, yes," said Alexander with a soft, disappointed smile. "I keep hoping to unearth something that I hadn't noticed before, or perhaps come across a hint to another world as well. I'm looking, you see, for a very specific place, and intend to search for as long as it takes to find it."

[identity profile] daventryprince.livejournal.com 2010-10-30 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
Smiling faintly again, Alexander nodded. "Exactly. It must be out there somewhere; it has to be. Now if only I could not misplace my journals so that I could spend more time looking for the Land and not the journals themselves..."

"Unless it was absolutely dire," Alexander said, "I wouldn't wish you to use such a power even if you were able."

Because, really, when you got down to it, he could probably do just that right now...

"If it could not be found by practical searching, then perhaps it was just meant to be lost."

"Perhaps, then, things are meant to be pointless," said Alexander with a chuckle, because he couldn't really help that one. "But truthfully, I believe many things can be meant to be. I was meant to discover my heritage. I believe I am meant to be a king one day. I am also determined that I am meant to find Cassima and the Land of the Green Isles, one day, but I know that none of it could happen without effort. If I didn't try to make it so, then I would be meant to be dead."

Actually, Alexander would quite agree that it was the important part. The dopey smile on his face certainly made it seem so. "Yes," he said, "Princess of the Land of the Green Isles. I first met her when she assisted my father in saving my family from the attempted revenge of the evil wizard Mordack, who had actually enslaved her in his castle because she refused to marry him."

Consider that sigh quite the wistful one, yes.
