Fifth Floor Common Room; Sunday Evening [ 11/07 ].
Ariel had so much energy right now, but was so bored, especially after a long day of treasure hunting, and so she tried to think of something new and fun and interesting to do when she realized that there was a whole plethora of things she could start doing now that she was someone's girlfriend. And right at the top of her list, she decided, was making cookies for her boyfriend. She'd seen people do it before, in person and on the television, so it couldn't be that hard, right?
...right?
Well, perhaps she was a little off on that. Coughing, trying to clear out the black smoke that came from the oven when she opened it, Ariel realized that cookies looked a lot easier to make than they really were and looked at the pan of pitiful charred black things in her oven-mitted hand and wondered if maybe Bruce needed some nice, homemade paperweights instead...
[[ it feels much later than it is and I feel lame going to bed so early, so viola! Open and smoky and probably smelly common room post! Huzzah!]]

Which wasn't to say she was very good at it, but that seemed a minute detail.
"It was a lot of fun, even if I fell a lot. But they have rinks on the mainland, too? Maybe we should go!"

Ohymgosh, they were going to have their first date as a couple, and it was going to be ice skating! Something you could only do with feet! That sure beat the seaweed out of cookies, for sure.

His skating was a little rusty. It would be good to get in some practice.
Bruce's thoughts were so romantic.

Ariel would have clapped her hands, but she was still holding the tray of cookies, so she just beamed happily. "Then it's a date! We could maybe find a nice place to have dinner, too. Somewhere...where they don't burn the cookies..."

Bruce realized that with the way he tried to put on a show of knowing everything, a clarification was probably in order. "I don't mean me that time. I know next to nothing about cooking."
no subject
"Well," she said, "someone's always cooking around here, so I'm sure I could find someone. It'd be nice to know how to make them, even if you're not much of a fan."
Pity she figured Jono probably didn't know how, either, considering he ate them even less than Bruce.
"What sort of food do you like more? Maybe I could learn that."

"Veggie plates. A nice platter of carrots and celery and maybe cucumbers."

Look at him, actually using a sense of humor. And while it was still sarcastic, it wasn't bitterly so. He was making an effort.

"Are you actually going to eat those?" Bruce asked. "Because you don't have to."
no subject
She'd used Cheetos as an example, but she had a feeling Bruce didn't eat those much either.
Which was fine.
More for her!

"This isn't one of those times," he said as he started chewing on the bit of cookie he managed to gnaw off.
no subject
"Better to try and know for sure, I guess," she said, biting her lip. "Sorry."

To truly understand how to fight crime, you needed to become something worse than a criminal. To truly understand fine healthy cuisine, you needed to eat some nasty stuff.
Btuce understood fine healthy cuisine.

"Ew, really?"

One glance at the cookies was all she needed there.
And he was also talking to a girl whose diet had consisted mostly of variations on seaweed before coming here, too.

"Fair enough," she allowed. "Do you, um, want some water or anything?"
Because she couldn't imagine that being a very good taste to leave in your mouth.

Bruce Wayne wasn't a quitter. He was going to finish the cookie.
