Behind the Dorms, Tuesday After Class

Wasn't it refreshing to be having today's Reserves meeting outside? Outside in the sunshine, with the trees turning and the soft tickle of pollen on the breeze?

"Hey, guys!" Really, it wasn't possible for Zack to get much more antsy than he usually was, was it? "Today we're going to cover some more physical drills, working on hand-to-hand combat. There are plenty of techniques to choose from, from speed-based martial arts to strength-based grappling, and they all have their benefits. If you don't know your fighting style, that's fine! You can partner off and practise today, after Maladicta and Kennedy give us a quick demonstration!"

This couldn't possibly go wrong!

Of course not! Why would there be anything wrong with two girls demonstrating hand-to-hand combat techniques? Other than... oh dear. Was that mud on the ground in that only patch that was in the shade and therefore safe for Maladicta to, oh, do anything in?

"One of the most important things to remember is that there will always be someone stronger or more skilled than you," Maladicta said, taking off her jacket so it wouldn't get mussed. Even though, being a vampire, it would only serve to enhance the look. "Kennedy has more training than I have, for instance."

"And Maladicta's stronger than I am," added Kennedy, shrugging her hoodie off, and exercising an amazing amount of discretion in just leaving the explanation at that. "So she's got one kinda edge over me, I have another over her..." Wow, Kennedy, pick less picturesque prepositions. "Anyway, it's a whole thing."

She was all distracted, and words were all... evasive. "So screw the explanations, let's just go for it. Also, since this might get messy today?" She eyed the patch of mud. "Not that we're keeping score, but you might be, so bonus points to you if you partner up with someone for cleanup afterward. 'cause... fun."

Which meant this was the best time for Maladicta to tackle Kennedy into that mud. It ended up less 'graceful predator' and more 'Girls Gone Wild', unfortunately. Okay, not so unfortunate at all for most people watching.

And Zack... Zack was going to just stare.

"So, uh... get to it, guys?"

Alexander was noticeably...fidgety as he nibbled on a cookie. He didn't want to be here, but felt it was his duty to do so. All he really wanted to do was hop on a ship or a Portal and just go until he either died from effort or finally, finally found his Cassima. Something that couldn't be done just standing here, but he was, if anything, still responsible to what was expected of him.

Cloud had decided that whatever the Reserves were doing, it wouldn't make the stupid feeling that had assaulted everyone worse. By now...he was feeling like a complete idiot. And then some.

The cookies weren't helping neither.

Leda was attempting to drown her...urges, in caffeine. She'd already had a RockStar Cola, and was glad to see lots of coffee. Unfortunately her attempts were not working.

Of all the weeks not to have a boy or girl friend.

Coffee was a good distraction from edginess. Except for how it increased it.

...and what the heck was up with their leaders here? Or did she just have sex on the brain?

Cally was just going to join Zack in staring, actually. There was...probably coffee somewhere here. She could smell it. And yet.

And yet there were pretty girls rolling in the mud. She should be taking hand-to-hand combat notes.

Hand to something.

Her notes probably shouldn't include the word pretty. Also she should probably write them down instead of just thinking them.

Goose was still rather uncomfortable but he figured coffee was a good enough distraction.

At least that's what he thought, even four cups in and it still wasn't helping.

After a demonstration like that, Alexander was almost too afraid to even so much as mood, having a bad feeling about how the sorts of thoughts he was having would wind up for him.

Still,it was just combat, right? What...could possibly go wrong?

"We don't... have to be in the mud, right?" Scully checked, shifting from foot to foot with a troubled expression.

"...I sort of have that feeling," Alexander admitted, "in the pit of my stomach, that even if we tried not to, somehow, we still would."

Scully gave him a glum, yet puzzled look. "I do too. Somewhat." She wasn't sure if someone would push them in, or if... whatever was bugging her would just aim her toward it. She gave the mud a distrustful glance. "Right. So. Have a nice weekend?"

"...er, yes," said Alexander, who had been looking at the mud and considering the scenario he suspected and getting rather distracted by it. "Yes, I did. There was a great deal of singing on Friday, both intentional and not so much, but Saturday was nice and quiet. How was yours?"

"My singing is terrible," Scully said, as flatly as her singing voice. "And I still was forced to do it. I'm sure the Island is sorry now. Saturday I spent recovering and reading. And my roommate is no longer a vixen, for which I'm relieved."

For all he knew, he would stand there until the meeting died. Last thing he needed was to wrestle in the mud...or out of it. Or fight at all unless it involved swords, big, large swords...and now he had all kinds of wrong ideas on his head.

This was going to be a fine afternoon.

Leda pulled off her sweat shirt to keep it from getting messed up. Yes that was why. She was wearing a plain white t-shirt underneath.

What?

Maladicta was still there. Her clothing was artfully ripped* and she was covered in mud, but she was there.

Clinging to her coffee like it was a lifeline.

Faramir had sadly enough missed the demonstration. One could argue that this might have been for the best, but there were other theories out there that supported otherwise as well.

He was not so much here for the reserves, if one was honest and Faramir tended to be. No, since yesterday he had been thinking of someone much to often and while he was not inclined to share the exact nature of his thoughts, he found himself here either way.

He had however not expected the state in which he found her and he hoped that she would forgive him for the moment's staring before he managed to find words. "Should I ask what happened?"

...were those deer wandering over again?

"Oh, just a demonstration of hand-to-hand combat," Maladicta replied. Had it been anyone else, there might have been a hint of pink creeping over her cheeks. Thank the gods for being a vampire and above all this!

No, it were not. They required long, spoken speeches not internal ones.

"In the mud?" he asked. He was tempted to reach out and wipe some of it off, but he was doing his best to resist the urge for now. At least he was no longer staring at the rips. For now.

"There was some mud," Maladicta admitted. "It wouldn't do to only go halfway in a demonstration."

It had been very vigorous, Faramir. Very, very... vigorous.

Kennedy was more or less head-to-toe mud and artfully ripped* clothing too, and grinning like she'd enjoyed that wrestling match. A lot.

Who'd won?

Basically, everybody.
