The Salle, Sunday Afternoon

Leia was still full of excess energy, and while Roy had been a lot of fun, attempting to seduce her roommate was just wrong. So she'd decided to do a two birds, one stone thing, and work off some of that energy in the salle. She'd told Blackagar in Macro-Tactics that she didn't know much about hand-to-hand combat. Her skills with a blaster weren't in question, but if she was ever disarmed or in close quarters, she needed to know more about defending herself. So she was punching away at a target dummy.

If it could laugh at her, it probably would.

[Expecting one, but open salle is open.]

"Usually real danger is the last place people manage that." Buy, hey, she could surprise him.

He waved that away for now.

"Let's go over a couple of things you can use during a run like that one. After all, you might as well do what you can to make sure I can't chase you once you get past me."

"The first thing to be aware of is that the knee becomes a much less attractive target from behind. A good shot will take your opponent down, but because you'll be attacking in the direction the joint bends, it won't cause them permanent damage. They'll still be able to chase you."

"Well, one thing you have to deal with is that you're short. So there are two options for you. Hit one of the lower vital spots, or find a way to get someone on their knees so that you can really have your way with them."

"While you can't do much damage hitting the knees from behind, the joints bend that way naturally, so a good solid kick..." Max glanced over at her, eyebrow raised.

"If you time things right, and hit the leg that's supporting my weight, yes. Unless someone is braced for it, it's nearly impossible to stop your knee from folding when it's hit from behind." She should try it.

Max consciously didn't brace himself for the attack and as her kick landed his knee folded forward, dropping his weight awkwardly to one side before he could recover. He ended up kneeling and rather than recovering immediately, he waited.

Yeah. Not the best choice of moves there. Max didn't budge. Instead he turned in place, reaching up to grab at her. "Wasted opportunity," he criticized.

"You had a clean shot at my head," Max pointed out. "Neck, throat. You could have gotten in a kick at my kidneys." So many options that would keep him from chasing her.

Max snorted. "You won't hurt me," he assured her.

Another snort. "My dear, there are very few people on this island who can actually hurt me. Even if they did everything right." He was far, far tougher than he looked.

Max stood back up to his full height. "You've got to practice like it's real," he tells her. "Because when things get serious you'll always do things how you practiced them."

[identity profile] furious-maximus.livejournal.com 2010-11-16 05:21 am (UTC)(link)
"I believe you," Max nodded in agreement.

Max raised an eyebrow in surprise. He hadn't expected that, but...

"Sure. Why not?" She needed to learn, and no one else was teaching her. He might as well.
