Bruce wasn't sure why there was already a Christmas movie on some channel. He really wasn't sure why it was being shown twice in a row. He wasn't sure why people would want to see a movie where Will Ferrell wore tights for the entire running time. But most of all, he wasn't sure why he couldn't stop watching.

He couldn't even blame the TV for this one. Yet another reason why Bruce hated the holidays.

[OOC: It looks like USA had/has Elf on twice today... consecutively... and it's not even Thanksgiving. Look, I love the movie, but come on. Wait a week. Ahem.]

If Ariel's hair seemed particularly decorated with seashells today and if her dress seemed particularly sparkly today, well, that was probably because it was. She'd only just gotten back from almost literally washing up on shore after her weekend back home in Atlantica. She dropped off some of her stuff at her room, and then went to go see if anyone was around.

And maybe get some chips to snack on. Human food had spoiled her so much and fish food just wasn't as filling anymore.

"Hi, Bruce!" she greeted him as she drifted in and headed for the fridge. "Did I miss anything exciting this weekend?"

There had to be something good in the fridge, let's see...

"Not much, no. It's been fairly quiet," Bruce said. He wasn't going to mention a bad date with another girl, no. But it was at least bad in an interesting way, so it would have counted. "How was your trip home? Not too bad, it would seem."

"Oh, it was fantastic!" Ariel said, after politely swallowing the big bite of ham she took. "I think I did pretty well with my party, but it was still nothing compared to what everyone put together! My sisters even sang me aspecial song, and they absolutely loved the gifts I brought home for them."

Love was a bit of a...liberal description, really.

"And I even got to fit in a treasure hunt this morning, found a great telescope and some old pots and pans, and a nice wheel and a bit of sail, and I actually got to tell Scuttle what the whisk was, not the other way around."

"Have you been keeping him up to date on a lot of things from this world?" Bruce asked. He was kind of curious how she relayed some of this information back to a seagull, yes.

"Not a whole lot," Ariel said, ceremoniously plopping down on a chair with a plate full of ham on her bedazzled lap. "I don't see him a whole lot, actually! But I did tell him a lot about my collection here, and he didn't believe half the stuff I mentioned, especially not the steering column. I told him to come and see it; I mean, we're on the fifth floor, he wouldn't have a problem getting to the window, but, to be honest, I think he just has trouble finding this place."

"What are you watching?" Elphaba asked as she entered to fetch an apple. It seemed that she always encountered people on her quest for apples.

Apples were good, though.

"A Christmas comedy. It's not very funny," Bruce said, because of course he didn't find it funny or charming. "The network seems to disagree with me, though."

"A... what comedy?" Elphaba asked, realizing that this was probably something that everyone here took for granted for knowing. "I'm sorry, but I'm not familiar with Christmas."

"Christmas. It's a religious winter holiday that has become a significant secular celebration of togetherness, presents, and crass commercialism," Bruce said.

Guess who enjoyed Christmas from age 0 to 7 and then stopped suddenly.

"Sounds like a bundle of laughs," Elphaba said, a bit droll. "But you said has become? What was it originally?"

Logically, William knew that he'd have far better luck studying if he stayed in his room where there a much smaller chance of a crowd gathering, but tonight he found himself seeking company more than anything else. The book (on ballistic forensics, still) was more of a back up plan than the main objective.

"Evening, Mr. Wayne," William greeted Bruce with a friendly nod. "What are you watching?"

"You know you can call me Bruce, right, William?" Bruce asked. "And this is a Christmas comedy. Not necessarily my kind of thing, but it's keeping me interested."

"People keep assuring me of that, but some habits are just hard to break," William admitted a little sheepishly. "A... comedy? That seems a bit of an odd theme for a Christmas film." Someone hadn't really realised how much Christmas had changed in the past hundred-odd years.

"Practice and you'll get there eventually," Bruce said. "And I think it's safe to say that most Christmas movies these days are comedies." Not that he saw many of them. He wasn't a comedy kind of guy.

"I suppose it makes some sense, from a certain point of view," William mused. "The holiday is supposed to be about joy, after all."

Raven had just meant to pass through with a smile and nod to greet those in the room, but what was on the TV caught her eye and she had to stop and stare. "What is this?" she asked.

"Christmas movie. Will Ferrell is an elf," Bruce said. "It's a comedy, of course."

"I have not been overly fond of most comedies I have seen," Raven said, eyeing the screen. "They seem to rely on humiliation to make people laugh, which I do not understand."

"If you ignore the unfortunate tights, this relies more on putting a joyful but naive figure in complicated situations," Bruce said. "No humiliation, even if it is set up well for it."

"I'm told it's a Christmas movie," Elphaba said. "Any more than that, and you'll have to waiy for one of the others to explain."

She gave Raven a quick once-over with her eyes. "You came back in one piece as well, I see."

"From Sookie's home?" Raven said. She nodded, absently rubbing the side of her neck because it was still troubling her. "Yes, it was not a pleasant time, but we have all returned safely."

"I gathered as much from Karla," Elphaba said. "Though it sounded as if Sookie had the worst time of all. I suppose she'll have learned a few lessons, though."

"Miss Raven," William greeted politey. He hadn't seen much of her after their initial meeting, but she did have a rather distinctive look that was difficult to forget. "An extremely peculiar comedy, at least, so I am told."

"You may call me just Raven," she said with a gentle smile. "And I find most comedies rather peculiar. I understand humor much better than I did when I first came here, but some of it still puzzles me."

"You and me both," William admitted. "I mean, I thought I had a fairly good understanding of the concept, but it seems to have... shifted, somewhat, since my own time."
