Magic + Support Reserves, Wednesday Afternoon
Never accuse the Magic and Support reserves of skimping on any holiday where food was a key element.
... well, okay, they never skimped on food in general, but this week they'd basically ordered every element of a Thanksgiving feast except the stuffed turkey. It was a pie and mashed potato-palooza, and there were chairs set up in a circle so people wouldn't have to try to master new feats of balancing while they ate.
"Happy ... holiday most of you might not celebrate," Tara said, once most of the group had shuffled through the buffet line. "M-mostly we're here to eat, but while we're eating I wanted to do something my mom always had us do when I was little. We can all go around and each say what we're thankful for. It can be something huge, like love" -- she glanced to Kennedyif she was at the meeting -- "or, um, something as small as a pretty new pair of shoes. The idea is kind of to remind ourselves that, even if things are really bad, there's always stuff to be grateful for. Like, I'm thankful we're all here and that the island seems to be in a good mood."
"And I am grateful for my friends and all they have taught me of emotions," Raven said. "And for my gifts of healing which allow me to help them if they are hurt. And for the guidance my teachers have show me in controlling myself. And ... for love." She could probably go on and on and on, because this was Raven after, but the others needed a chance to speak.
Dolf ... probably knew less about this holiday than the students who weren't even from this planet, but the assignment was easy enough. "I'm grateful that the children are safe," he said, quietly. "And I'm grateful that I am safe. And all of you. That we aren't badly sick or hurt, and that things here are good. And I'm grateful for Saint Nicholas for watching over the children." A pause. "And for toilets." Just so it wouldn't become entirely depressing.
Karla had experienced one Thanksgiving already, and as far as she could tell, it was a holiday devoted to food and being nice to people. And more food.
Namely, it was a holiday she could get behind.
"I'm grateful for Fandom, giving us a home away from home," she said after a moment's thought. "I'm grateful that we can find acceptance here, even if it's just among a small group of friends. I'm grateful for love and laughter and Lacey's fries, and food that delivers."
[OOC: And I am thankful to have people like
trigons_child,
swordsandsoccer, and
glacial_witch to preplay with.]

Arrive + Mingle [11/24]
Re: Arrive + Mingle [11/24]
And almost -- almost even humming. There was certainly a touch of a visible smile on her face. That was something, right?
Re: Arrive + Mingle [11/24]
Which didn't stop her from filling her plate.
Re: Arrive + Mingle [11/24]
And totally enjoyed more than a little of the mashed potato. She was more than pleased that there was more vegetable-related options.
Re: Arrive + Mingle [11/24]
That wasn't going to change the fact that he'd chosen not to take a seat, in favour of lingering off in the background again. If anybody asked, he'd tell them that he was letting the people who were eating have the chairs. It seemed less antisocial than 'the food smells good, and I'll just glower at you all while you eat if I get too close.'
Activity [11/24]
Re: Activity [11/24]
With a glance at Karla in particular, she went on, "Good friends, good food, every day I get the chance to wake up and appreciate the beauty of the sunrise. Knowing there are places people can be safe. Knowing there are people willing to fight to preserve the good things in the world . . . who believe in that strongly enough to take the risk. I'm thankful that here in Fandom I can find out about more great stories than I ever even dreamed were possible, and . . ."
She took a deep breath, looked down at her hands for a moment and, also thankful for the fact that capital letters weren't that easily distinguishable in the spoken word, concluded, "I'm thankful for Hope."
Wherever she was.
Gabrielle must've realized she'd gone on a while, because she looked up and around the circle again, smiling slightly. "Sorry -- that's all from me."
Re: Activity [11/24]
Re: Activity [11/24]
"So are you," she replied with her old humor . . . and warmth, yes. "I'm thankful for that, too."

Re: Activity [11/24]
"I can't say I'm not grateful for being somewhere that gets the weird, and that's always throwing stuff at me to fight," she said offhandedly. It made sense in her head; if it came off sounding like she was glad for invasions, it didn't occur to her, and this whole 'grateful' thing was still, sadly, kind of a new-ish concept for her. "Though don't get me wrong, total appreciation that we always get out of these things, too. But really? I'm mostly glad for all the seriously awesome people Fandom's thrown at me. Especially that really cute one there, but all of 'em."

Re: Activity [11/24]
//I'm thankful for friends who look at who you are first and foremost, rather than worrying about what.// There was a pause there, and then he shrugged and added, //Love isn't half bad, either.//
No matter how it ended. It was nice when it was there.
Re: Activity [11/24]
She was a real bundle of joy, that Elphaba.
Re: Activity [11/24]
Shh, she wasn't misty over that. Look away.

Talk to the leaders [11/24]
Re: Talk to the leaders [11/24]
... but it was one with pie.
Re: Talk to the leaders [11/24]
Karla kind of had a one-track mind. But she would love to talk!
Re: Talk to the leaders [11/24]
Mostly, he cast guilty looks at the crowd, and really hoped nobody was going to ask him about the holiday.
Re: Talk to the leaders [11/24]
"It's.... a holiday for the appreciation of plumbing?" Cally suggested (not entirely seriously, but one never knew) when she'd found herself near him. ...By the entirely coincidental circumstance of walking over to him.
