Third Floor Common Room - Monday Evening

Jack was perfectly okay with forgetting about last week. Unfortunately, his body had other plans. When you were run down from being stuck outside in winter for a few days, there was a good chance you were going to let a cold get to you. That was the case with Jack. He'd slept. He'd eaten. He'd slept some more and now that he was sick of his room again, he moved to the couch in the common room. He had tissues and a blanket and the TV was playing a Christmas show. He wasn't that interested in it, but the remote control was all the way over there and moving wasn't really something he planned on doing for a while.

"Oooh, it's Frosty night?" Quinn asked, stopping in for a snack on her way home from work. "That has potential."

Jack looked up from the TV. "Every night is Frosty night if you look hard enough. They have cable channels here I've never seen before."

"There's a lot of random stuff on the TV," Quinn agreed. "I keep finding the worst reality shows. I'd rather have Frosty."

She selected a yogurt from the fridge and flopped into a chair. "Hi, I'm Quinn."

"Jack," came the reply. He managed a smile because, hello, pretty girl here. "I've seen this one a total of once at a friend's place so I don't remember a lot."

Unsurprisingly, Bruce wasn't the biggest fan of cartoons, or Christmas, or Christmas specials, or snowmen, or magic. There was very little justification for him to stop into the common room except for vague curiosity. Maybe he was missing out on something. Maybe... Okay, there was a song trying to pass "thumpity" off as a lyric. But he was in the room. He was committed.

"Evening. 'Tis the season, right?" Bruce asked, gesturing toward the TV.

"Hey Bruce. So the TV keeps trying to tell me. I'm not entirely convinced."

Elphaba wandered into the common room and found herself sitting down to watch the TV. A rare thing, indeed.

"Christmas program, correct?" she asked, hoping that it might help her learn more.

"You're a holiday skeptic?" Bruce asked. "Good, I'm not alone."

"Yeah?" Quinn asked. "Are you a from-another-dimension type, or just deprived?"

"I'm an one hundred percent normal Missouri guy," Jack assured her. "My mom is the weird one. We didn't have a TV until last year because of her."

"I don't mind celebrating Christmas when it's Christmas Day. But until it hits Christmas Eve, I'm not listening when they tell me it's the season unless the season is winter."

"You don't have Christmas at home?" he guessed.

"Ohio here," Quinn said. "My dad used to get weird about what I can watch, but we still had one and everything. Even if he's always stealing it to watch Fox News."

"I know we only just met, but let's agree right now to never let our parents meet."

"Done," Quinn said firmly. "I'm not all that into politics anyhow."

She did student council, but that wasn't real politics. That was school.

"Can I ask why?"

"The closest is Lurlinemas, a winter solstice festival," Elphaba said. "I find it interesting that the 'mas' is shared between them, actually. But I've been trying to learn more about the holiday, ever since Bruce first told me about it."

"That sounds reasonable. Especially when the so-called holiday season starts so early," Bruce said. "Christmas is a day. It's not two months."

"My mom is. It's never pretty, and if there's anything Fox-related involved, there's usually an explosion so big that the area never fully recovers."

"I think the school is nicer without exploded heads all over the place," Quinn said wryly. "And I like my dad better when he's not going off about something. We're cool."

"Couldn't have put it better. But here we are, watching the snowman."

"What do you think of it so far?"

"I'm doing it out of curiosity. I want to see if I can actually make it through the half hour," Bruce said. "What's your excuse?"

"The remote is over there and moving sucks right now."

"As good a reason as any, I suppose," Bruce said. "At least it's honest."
