Third Floor Common Room - Monday Evening

Jack was perfectly okay with forgetting about last week. Unfortunately, his body had other plans. When you were run down from being stuck outside in winter for a few days, there was a good chance you were going to let a cold get to you. That was the case with Jack. He'd slept. He'd eaten. He'd slept some more and now that he was sick of his room again, he moved to the couch in the common room. He had tissues and a blanket and the TV was playing a Christmas show. He wasn't that interested in it, but the remote control was all the way over there and moving wasn't really something he planned on doing for a while.

[OOC: Open of course!]

"The closest is Lurlinemas, a winter solstice festival," Elphaba said. "I find it interesting that the 'mas' is shared between them, actually. But I've been trying to learn more about the holiday, ever since Bruce first told me about it."

"I don't know," Elphaba said. "I understand another animal is to be ritually sacrificed for the sake of 'good cheer' for every family, which I don't like. But the idea of a celebration of familial love... while not something I'd ever truly experience, it seems a good idea."

"Well yes, of course," Elphaba said. "But... you're right." She sighed. "I doubt the school, if it is anything like Thanksgiving, will be sparing the lives of animals."

She had Priorities.

"Not that Lurlinemas is any better, admittedly. But Oz treats its farms very differently."

"There are Animals and then there are animals," Elphaba explained. "Animals have free will, and speak and are just like you or I. For example, I have heard stories of an owl that is a vicar in Munchkinland."

"For me," Elphaba said. "Though I'd happily eat eggs or milk from farms of willing Chickens and Cows, in Oz. It makes things... different."

"I did try gingerbread, the other week. I made it myself. Even built a little house, like the traditions said was often done. Though it almost seemed a waste," Elphaba explained. "It was quite tasty."

"Probably," Elphaba said, politely refraining from mentioning she'd be careful not to eat cookies with Earth eggs or milk in them. "I also intend to find a candy cane at some point, even though they're just flavored sugar. I want to try and experience as much of Christmas as I can."
