Third Floor Common Room, Wednesday Evening

After the Magic Reserves meeting, Alex decided to hit up the common room to see if anyone was around. Having no classes on Wednesdays meant Alex had spent most of the day in her room, bored. Common room visits usually helped to fix that.

Her rummaging through the cabinets produced a bag of popcorn (mmm, popcorn) and soon, the common room was filled with its smell. Placing the bowl on the nearby table, Alex flopped onto the couch and flipped on the television.

Time to see if there was anything worth watching.

Bruce was making his way back to his room after an evening workout when the smell of popcorn caught his attention from the stairwell. He wasn't really up for snack foods after beating the hell out of a punching bag, but he figured he should socialize a little.

"Alex," Bruce greeted. "Watching anything in particular?"

"Hey Bruce," Alex replied, with a wave of her hand. "Nothing at the moment. Can't seem to find anything good." Not yet. She still had a few channels left to go. "Care for some popcorn?"

"I wasn't going to, but why not?" Bruce said, taking a handful of popcorn and a seat on the couch. "How's the new semester treating you so far?"

"I can never say no to popcorn, myself," Alex admitted, smirking ever so slightly. What? It was delicious and one of the better junk food options. "So far so good. I think I'm looking forward to Jaina's class the most."

It looked like it would be the most helpful to her, too. "That and the fighting with powers class. How's your semester? Get all of the classes you wanted?"

"Yeah. I managed to get the TA position in that class, found my way into a fighting class, a pacifism class, Nation Building, and Holmes and Watson's sex ed class. I figured I'd go for an eclectic mix this semester," Bruce said.

"Well, now I know who to bother when I have questions," she teased. "You weren't kidding about eclectic. I think mine can be categorized under either survival or science."

"Are you in Chemistry? Because I hear that's definitely a mixture of the two," Bruce said.

"Yes, I'm taking that class. I think that best describes it, too," Alex nodded, chuckling lightly as she grabbed some more popcorn. "There's all ready been one explosion and I get the feeling there might be more, especially if or when we start mixing elements together."

She might have a little bit excited about that possibility.

"I'm betting you could expect an explosion every week," Bruce said. "I took her demolitions class last semester. There's a woman who really enjoys blowing things up."

"That she does," Alex chuckled, recalling Demolitions class. "I think I'll be disappointed if we don't get at least one every class. If that's the case, I'm sure I'll manage somehow."

"Just remember to sit in the back of the class and wear safety goggles when necessary," Bruce said.

"I'll be sure to use my desk as a shield too, if needed," Alex added, grinning widely as she pictured herself wearing safety goggles. Not a look many people could pull off.

"Any plans for the weekend?" She was in the process of trying to figure out what she'd be doing, so she figured she'd ask.

"Nothing special, no," Bruce said. "Studying, working out, getting out to socialize a little, probably. I'm expecting it to be fairy typical. I try to keep myself open to the unexpected, though."

"What about you? Anything to keep you busy?"

"The same for me, I suppose," Alex admitted. Minus the working out. "Though, I kind of want to try my hand at laser tag at some point." She had no idea where that had come from to be honest. "It looks like fun."

"Is there any place to play laser tag around here?" Bruce asked.

"The only place I could think of that might have it or something close to it, would be Fast Eddie's. It's either that or some place on the mainland," Alex answered.

It looked like research was in order.

"Fast Eddie's doesn't," Bruce said. "But if you do find someplace on the mainland and want some company, let me know. I could probably use a good game of laser tag."

Really, it was more the opportunity to run around and test out his ability to strategize on the fly, be stealthy, and aim while doing both. All while spending time with an attractive girl, yes.

"I have my work cut out for me then," Alex replied, deciding she'd look for a place starting tomorrow. "I will let you know what I end up with. Hopefully, I'm successful in my mission," she added, fingers crossed.

And if that meant spending some more time with a cute boy, well, how could Alex say no to that?
