Second Floor Common Room; Sunday Morning

Leo was wide awake after radio and he wasn't comfortable enough to spend all his time stalking Fixer-Uppers yet, so he decided to check out the common room on his floor. It seemed nice, not as high-tech as cabin nine, but it had a TV and food so he really couldn't find much to complain about.

He put the TV onto ESPN and idly listened to the anchors talking about the playoff games today while making himself breakfast. Southwestern omelets. The actual, good, Southwestern kind. Not that crap rolled up into a burrito that you got at McDonalds for two bucks.

[The common room is open, yes]

Bod laughed but it was mostly humorless. "For me? No, nothing good. I've had a rather bad time of it lately. Hopefully the worst is passing."

It earned him an eyebrow raise. "Why? What's up?"

"Kate and I are no longer together," he said and was proud of himself for saying it fairly calmly. "She lied and cheated on me so I ended things a little before Christmas. I've been rather upset about it so it was probably good that you were a plushie and didn't have to deal with that."

"She cheated?" Jake frowned and shook his head. "I'm sorry, that's rough. I wouldn't have minded, you had to deal with my mood too. Sounds like you did the right thing, though. Even if it sucks."

"She, uh, was doing things for men via the computer that helped them -- "

Bod made a gesture in lieu of saying the words and hoped Jacob got it.

" -- and they, in turn, bought her things. And she lied to me about what she was doing."

And now Jake was staring, because that was just skeevy. And illegal? How old was Kate anyway.

"Wow... I would not have expected that from her," he blinked. "Sorry, man. Do you need to get drunk or something? Or punch someone?"

"I didn't expect either so you're not alone there. She doesn't think she did anything wrong though."

Bod shook his head and looked away, trying not to get angry all over again.

"I don't think I'd be any good at punching anyone," he said and laughed, "but I might take you up on that first one. I haven't even thought of that option as a way of coping."

"Well, I don't think you're supposed to do it on a regular basis but a one off..." Jake shrugged. "Just as long as you don't mind if I stick to soft drinks."

Bod chuckled but nodded. "I might take you up on that at some point. Thus far, I've managed just by reading a lot and trying to keep myself as busy as possible. Sometimes it helps, sometimes it doesn't."

"Busy's good," Jake agreed. "It's when you sit down too long and you end up overthinking it." He made a face. "It's supposed to get better and all that jazz."

"That's what I've heard," he said and smiled sadly. "It's difficult considering the school and town is quite small so I can't avoid things entirely. I'm trying even if it's not fast enough for some people."

"For Kate?" Jake guessed, shaking his head. At least Bella was a long time away. "Because I don't think she's got a say in this."

"Yes, for Kate," he said and nodded. "She told me I needed to try harder to move on the other day for some reason. I don't move fast enough for her, I guess."

Oh yeah, Jake raised his eyebrows at that. "Seriously? What the fuck is her problem? Maybe she should leave you the hell alone. She messed up, she can learn to deal with the consequences."

Bod laughed at the word 'consequences' but it was tinged with bitterness. "She doesn't think she should have to deal with those because she doesn't think she did anything wrong. Apparently, I'm the wrong on in this because what I did means I think she's a slut."

Which was...so completely wrong and so completely hurtful that Bod didn't even like thinking about it.

"I don't know what happened."

Which honestly was exactly what Jake was thinking, but at least he knew not to say that out loud.

"If she's thinking that, then she knows it's messed up what she's doing," he decided. "I don't know, man. I don't get why she'd want to have guys perving over her to begin with. You didn't do anything wrong."

"I don't know either," Bod said but it was nice to talk to someone who was sympathetic. It made it a bit easier to get some of this off his chest.

"She made it clear that I can't tell the difference between cheating and love since she didn't feel anything when she was doing those...other things. And then gave me back every present I'd ever given to her because she decided it was payment for me thinking she was a whore."

Jake blinked, for a moment wondering if he needed to have a word with Kate, but Bod would probably not thank him for it.

"That's just stupid," he decided. "She's got something wrong there. What's wrong with not wanting to share your girlfriend with another guy? I don't think she'd have liked it if you went out to strut your stuff at random girls."

"No, apparently, she would be just fine with it as long as it was nothing I found hot," he shared, shaking his head. "So, apparently sharing me is just fine with her."

He hadn't really thought about that until now and now it didn't make him feel too good about himself. "I guess she didn't really want just me at all."

"Or she's got a different view on relationships," Jake tried, not exactly liking the look on his friends face. "There's people who are even cool having sex with others. It's better to find out now than later on, no?"

"I suppose you're right, yes," Bod said, nodding and shaking his head. "It's over now. I'm apparently a terrible person for turning on her so quick and she's done nothing wrong."

"No, you're not," Jake defended instantly. "Even if she didn't see anything wrong with it, she should have told you. You didn't do anything wrong except think that you were having a normal relationship. She's the one with the twisted ideas."

"Yes, well, it's over now," he said and sighed, sitting back and rubbing the bridge of his nose. "She's already been with someone else and I'm fairly sure I'm an afterthought. I'm just doing my best to move on."

"You're better than her, better than she deserves," Jake decided instantly. "Who knows, you might run into a new girl and be head over heels soon."

"I don't know about that but I'll never say never," he said and laughed. "How are you doing in that area? Better luck than me?"
