Second Floor Common Room; Sunday Morning

Leo was wide awake after radio and he wasn't comfortable enough to spend all his time stalking Fixer-Uppers yet, so he decided to check out the common room on his floor. It seemed nice, not as high-tech as cabin nine, but it had a TV and food so he really couldn't find much to complain about.

He put the TV onto ESPN and idly listened to the anchors talking about the playoff games today while making himself breakfast. Southwestern omelets. The actual, good, Southwestern kind. Not that crap rolled up into a burrito that you got at McDonalds for two bucks.

[The common room is open, yes]

"Hmm," Caroline gave him an appraising once over, adding the redness of his cheeks and ears to her assessment of his name. Maybe she could help make it worse. "Since you asked and all, I guess I'd think Bod would imply something pretty amazing, with the whole body thing going on. You know, on paper."

Yes, that wasn't going to help the blushing at all. At all. His ears felt warmer than before and he knew his cheeks had to be splotched with red, making him look more ridiculous than anything.

"I don't think anyone's ever assessed my talent in that general area just going off my name," he said and made it sound like the compliment it was. "On paper, thank you. I don't know if it's true or not but I thank you for saying it anyway. I doubt I could do the same thing, connecting your skill in that area to your name."

"I like that you didn't volunteer to let me find out," Caroline said, looking very pleased with Bod. "It's refreshing to meet guys who don't assume girls should want to sleep with them the moment they meet. Oh, unless you're gay and then I'm not at all refreshed but I will consider making you go shopping with me."

"I'm not gay," he said and laughed, trying to will away some of the redness on his cheeks and neck. "And it's really not my place at all to decide who you should be with. You're very pretty, there's no doubt about that, but you've your own mind and your own intelligence so I've no doubt you can make your own choices. Making assumptions for you would be out of place and just...rude."

Oh, so British.

[identity profile] puppywithatutu.livejournal.com 2011-01-09 05:13 pm (UTC)(link)
"And you're very...sweet," she decided, a suspicious tone in her voice. "It's nearly alarming. You don't have a secret room plastered with pictures of a young, blonde girl somewhere around here, do you?" He was maybe going into her creeper category. Too nice and sweet for his own good, this one.

"I...no," he said, eyes widening just a touch at that question. "No, I don't. I'm not really one to employ those type of practices if I like someone, I assure you. Being sweet isn't allowed?"

People always seemed either surprised or suspicious when they called him that. It was odd.

"Besides, I'd call it more respectful and curious than anything. I don't want to assume anything about you because that's not my place or right but I'm curious about you."

[identity profile] puppywithatutu.livejournal.com 2011-01-09 05:37 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh? And what gets your curiosity going about me? If I ask, then it'd be rude not to answer, right?" Still bordering on creeper, but Bod could always dig himself out.

"Well, I recall during class that you said you were interested in learning more about werewolves so I'd be curious as to why they were a particular interest of yours."

That was a...non creeper thing to say, he thought.

"I've known a werewolf myself. She was from Romania, made me awful stew and saved my life from a pack of ghouls that had once kidnapped me. I think anyone who wants to know more about them besides the rather awful stereotypes given in the media is worth being curious about. It seems to mean they're open minded and willing to learn rather than just judging a species immediately."

He'd obviously been paying as close attention in class as she was. "I have a friend who's a werewolf," she shared carefully. "And I'm very much about promoting the uh, more positive sides of the paranormal element." And you know, she was a vampire desperately trying to fit in with humans.

"As am I," Bod said, nodding. "Most people I've talked to don't necessarily see why I think that but I don't think they've had the same experiences I've had with werewolves, ghosts, witches and vampires."

It was nice to meet someone who didn't automatically look horrified at him talking about the supernatural. "I was raised by a graveyard full of ghosts and a vampire. They kept me safe and made sure I was raised well. I can't help thinking that. Thank you for not automatically being scared by hearing where I've come from too."

[identity profile] puppywithatutu.livejournal.com 2011-01-09 06:18 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh, pfft, like a graveyard's so scary," Caroline said, trying to not immediately get excited that she'd found someone used to vampires. "So um, raised by a vampire? That must've been cool. I mean, you were never lunch, right?"
therewaslife: (↑ | cutie)

[personal profile] therewaslife 2011-01-09 06:25 pm (UTC)(link)
"I was never lunch," he said and chuckled. "No, Silas was my guardian and anything I might have needed him to be. He kept me safe, bought me food and clothes and was generally the person who most shaped my life."

Bod smiled again and it seemed a little easier to do at the moment. He didn't think about that though.

"I preferred pizza for lunch, actually. I'm sure Silas ate but he never shared that with me and I respected that. I knew he had to and I saw no harm in that. He knew how to be responsible."

[identity profile] puppywithatutu.livejournal.com 2011-01-09 06:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Caroline couldn't believe she was hearing this. "Wow. So like, vampires don't scare you at all? That is so nice to hear after the last few days, Bod. Did you know there are people here who hunt vampires?"
therewaslife: (↑ | smirking at you)

[personal profile] therewaslife 2011-01-09 07:10 pm (UTC)(link)
"They don't frighten me, no. They have a right to to live their lives just as much as I do. If they do it differently, that's not for me to judge."

He'd had a good mentor and reason for thinking that.

"It doesn't surprise me that people hunt them though," he added, shaking his head. "A lot of stereotypes and misunderstandings seem to exist about vampires which means a small handful of misbehaving vampires dictate what people think of vampires in general which just isn't fair. There are bad vampires, bad werewolves and bad humans too and yet, no one cowers in fear at the mention of knowing a human."

[identity profile] puppywithatutu.livejournal.com 2011-01-09 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
"Exactly! Humans do really terrible things, including killing things just because they're afraid and don't understand." Mother. "Now, you see a vampire rip out a person's throat...maybe that's different depending on the situation. Like, self defense and stuff should so not be held against anyone!"
therewaslife: (↑ | soft and sweet)

[personal profile] therewaslife 2011-01-09 07:25 pm (UTC)(link)
"I just know that I myself have done some things I'm not proud of and yet, people seem to be able to forgive me for that," Bod said, nodding his agreement. "Vampires should be afforded the same rights. They're different but they're not monsters. I believe that sincerely."
