Fifth Floor Common Room, Tuesday Morning

Last night, something peculiar had happened for the very first time: Jeremy Darling had gone grocery shopping.

And as was the case with most things involving money and a member of the Darling family, he had maybe gone a little overboard. He'd ended up having to lug three bags of foodstuffs back to the dorms, on his own, and dearly wishing Clark could have moved to Fandom with the twins to help with this stuff.

Still, the good thing was that he had three different kinds of cereal to choose from this morning when he wandered on down to the common room, wearing his glasses and his pajama bottoms with the planet print, his red silk dressing gown hanging open. After making his daunting breakfast food choice, he flopped down onto a couch with his bowl of cereal (two kinds at the same time) and turned the television on to start channel surfing.

It wasn't long before he was considering buying the common room a nice new TV set.

"... Right." Okay. Jeremy was going to just focus on the part he understood and could accept, which was that this guy had had it rough at some point in his life. "Sorry to hear that, dude."

"Perhaps I should be apologizing to you," Bod said, wincing. "I've told the story a few times now that I sometimes forget that some people aren't always ready for it. I'm not even the strangest person you'll meet either."

"I'm starting to think that," Jeremy replied, slowly. Could their dad have enrolled the twins in a special school of some kind? He couldn't have, could he?

He frowned. "My fake big brother did say something about that."

"Who were you assigned?" Bod asked curiously. "If he's mentioned that, you should probably listen because he's obviously not lying."

"Might be obvious to you, dude," Jeremy muttered half under his breath before actually answering the question. "Nico di Angelo."

Who had about the coolest name ever, but that was beside the point.

"I more meant that it's obvious after talking to me, someone who's made you make quite the array of faces. I wasn't making any other assumptions," Bod clarified calmly. "I haven't met Nico as of yet but I haven't met a lot of people either. I'm just now working on becoming more social than I have been in the past. Sitting in my room accomplishes nothing."

"I thought you said you'd been here over a year," Jeremy remarked, scooping some cereal into his spoon. It was pretty soggy by now but he didn't care. "Were you like a hermit or something until now?"

"I have been," he said, chuckling a bit at himself. "That doesn't necessarily mean I've been outgoing and particularly social in that year. I've had to get used to going to a public school and living in a place that wasn't inhabited by ghosts. It took some time. I wasn't a hermit but I enjoy being on my own sometimes."

"I do, too," Jeremy shared. He was just completely ignoring the ghost stuff, because he'd just... He'd process that later. "Well, with Jules."

That was their version of being alone, a lot of the time.

"Jules is your...friend?" he guessed, trying not to assume anything closer since that wasn't his place.

"Well yeah," Jeremy said, and smiled. "My best friend, really, but she's actually my sister. Juliet. We're twins."

All that information came out a little stilted, mostly because he wasn't used to having to clarify. Everyone knew the Darling twins, of course they did.

Oh, Jeremy, you so weren't in Kansas anymore. Or New York. However that saying went.

"Did she come with you?" Bod asked curiously. "You won't be alone in your gaping confusion if she did."

"Yeah." His tone made it sound like it should've been 'of course'. They were tight like that. "I'm hardly ever alone in anything."

"Is that a good thing or a bad thing?" Bod wondered. Hey, he hadn't ever had the sibling experience, he couldn't help the curiosity.

Jeremy nodded, almost thoughtful. "It's like... It's Jules. She knows me, you know?"

"So, it's a good thing," he deduced, nodding. "And it'll probably be helpful in a strange place like this. You'll have someone to sit and stare at things with."

"Probably," Jeremy allowed. Still trying to dodge the weird, yes. "We kind of do a lot of stuff together, anyway. I can't believe they put her on the third floor."

[therewaslife]

"You can always request a room switch," Bod pointed out, shrugging. "She can move up here or you can move down there. They're actually fairly easygoing about that. People seem to move all the time. It's not that hard."

He shrugged and tried to make himself talk about mundane, non weird things so poor Jeremy's brain wouldn't permanently check out.

There really was kind of an actual risk of that happening. He wasn't used to using much of it, for one thing.

"I might look into that," he shrugged. "Or not. Is there a rule that we have to live in the dorms? Because I think I've seen some houses 'round town that could be totally wet if we had some work done on them."

"You know, I'm actually...not sure," Bod admitted, shaking his head. "All of the students I know live in the dormitories. Most of the faculty and townspeople live in the town. You don't think that'd get boring for you?"

[And I might hit some AFK soon for awhile due to work booo sorry]

"I think I could take boring over cramped," Jeremy replied. "I mean, I'm used way more space to myself. My bedroom at home was about... well, about the size of this room."

He wasn't even kidding.

[NP, I should go to bed within an hour anyway. Early translation class tomorrow, booooooooooo.]

"That's..." He glanced around, eyes wide. "...big. I don't even have enough things to fill the small rooms we're given. I'd get lost in a big house like that."

"We own the building," Jeremy shrugged. Wasn't a big deal to him. "I think I brought too much stuff with me."

No surprise there.

"You are...really wealthy," Bod said, impressed. "Why are you in school? I would think a private school would be where you and your sister would end up."

"Well, we were at a private school," Jeremy mused, lips twisting some. "But there was a disagreement with the principal, so now we're here."
