Fifth Floor Common Room, Saturday afternoon

Bruce made his way to the common room to get some more room to stretch out while reading. He was doing just that, too, when the TV suddenly turned on, tuned into the football game. Bruce tried to mute it with the remote, which of course didn't work. "I'm trying to read here," he said. The volume didn't change.

Bruce was going to get a freaking EMF meter before the next time he came to this common room. But since he didn't have one of those right now, he went back to his dorm room, came out with his spare sheets, and covered the TV with them to dampen the sound.

He won this round, thank you very much.

"Is that who you were talking with in Japanese?" Ariel asked, grabbing some chopsticks (she wouldn't dream of using a dinglehopper for noodles) to stir her Ramen up and then come sit down on the couch, tucking her legs up underneath her and giving all her attention to Bruce as she slurped up her first bite.

"It was," Bruce said. "She was studying for something and apparently forgot what language she was speaking, but I managed to keep up."

"She just...switched right over to Japanese?" Ariel asked, trying to keep her giggle down a little, but not too much.

"No, she was speaking Japanese to begin with," Bruce said. "She didn't switch to English when she answered her door."

"Ahhh," said Ariel, who then smirked a little. "That's kind of cute, actually. What was she studying?"

"I never got a chance to ask," Bruce said. "She beat me to asking any questions."

"Ohhhhhhh?" asked Ariel, slurping noodles with intrigue and letting that question ask itself.

"Nothing's going on if that's what you're trying to find out," Bruce said, sensing a certain tone to the question. "She started asking me about my time in Japan, where I was, what it was like. That kind of stuff."

"Oh," said Ariel, sitting back with a disappointed slump to her shoulders, but it was only there for a second before she was back up and asking, "What was it like in Japan?"

"It was... nice. Quiet. The dojo I attended was in a small mountain village," Bruce said. "And nearly all of the other students were very kind. But I didn't get much of the big city experience most people think of with Japan."

"I actually don't know anything much about Japan at all," Ariel admitted with a shrug. "Except /Something in Japanese/ and that I don't really like sushi."

Hopefully, she shouldn't have to explain that one.

"Understandably," Bruce said. "The biggest cities are densely populated, and the country tends to have a fixation on technology. But where I was, everything was natural, and the dojo was the only place around for miles."

"And what's a dojo?" Ariel asked.

"Oh, I'm sorry," Bruce said. "It's a martial arts school. I went there as part of my training."
