Fourth Floor Common Room | Sunday Morning
Making coffee wasn't exactly rocket science, but waiting for it to brew was maybe going to kill Caroline.
"Come on, come on, come on!" she ordered impatiently, leaning against the counter in hopes that her stare would make the machine work faster. "If I felt like taking half my day to get coffee, I'd have gone into town and flirted with the barista. Or like, paddled a freaking boat to Colombia to get the beans from Juan Valdez. This is just ridiculous."
She paused, realizing what she was doing. "Oh God, why am I talking to inanimate objects?"
Another pause as the coffee pot groaned in percolation completion. "Aaaand now I'm talking to myself. Great. Fantastic. Now I'll just pour myself some coffee and hope that I can manage to drink enough to shut up." Extra sugar mixed with her caffeine could only help that, right? Whatever, the coffee was good and the sofa was comfortable and it was Sunday and there was nothing better to do.
[Very much open.]

Another question. What was it with Effy always managing to walk in when people were?

Having said that, Effy was remarkably not plagued by anything like that this morning. In a relatively good mood and all.

And it wasn't even hard. "Heeey, there's coffee!" he said, letting that be his greeting as he entered the room. "Is it any good?"
Look, he'd learned to make coffee over his few weeks here, but it tended to end up just barely drinkable most days.

Because she was a pretty girl and he would pretend to like her coffee even if it turned out to be bad. He just worked like that.

"Did you not make me breakfast?" he asked when he wandered in, still stretching and yawning. "I was looking forward to a big plate of biscuits and gravy this morning. Why is reality so fucking cruel?"

Maybe she'd panic again.

No, he really didn't think it was a date but since she was getting all weird about it, who was Nathan to set her straight without having some fun?
