Magic Reserves, Dorm Lobby, Wednesday Afternoon

Reserves met in the lobby today, since going outside felt like a cruel joke. The snacks were a bit sparse -- chips, cookies, hot and cold drinks -- but still more than enough to get through an hour.

"Hey," Tara said earnestly, once it seemed like everyone had found a chair or a piece of floor. "Thanks for coming this week. We wanted to talk about something the importance of communication, even when things are going wrong."

"A lot of us have secrets, at home," she continued, since that was a topic she knew something about. "We can't use our powers, if we have them. We've been told we're bad or worthless or evil or cursed or -- anything mean that people wanted to say to us, we've heard it. And that fear stays with us, so here, even though we know our friends don't think of us the same way ... we still feel alone. Even though none of us really are." She was silently grateful to Tahiri and Illyria, there. They'd freed her from her own fear.

She continued, with the slightest glance to the other leaders, "Most of the time, our secrets don't do anything but make us feel bad and keep us awake at night. But sometimes there's something we don't want to talk about that might be a risk for other people. Today, we're going to talk about how to tell our friends when there's something in our past that might come back to hurt us or someone else."

"And then if things go wrong, we all suffer," said Dolf. He was still looking conflicted today, but he was trying not to let it all shine through too much. "So we think that today we should talk about communication, and making sure we all know about the same problems. Just in case something goes wrong. You might think it is not a good idea to tell us something, but often it really is."

A sparse offering of snacks was usually all Alexander needed usually, anyway, so he nibbled quietly, as he tended to do that usually, too.

Cally was still uncomfortably shaken by her experience in Psionics class this morning; she poured herself a cup of coffee almost on auto-pilot, and would probably have been wearing it or sporting a lovely scald on her hand if she wasn't a fairly dexterous person by nature. She sipped at it afterwards, standing to the side and wondering if a weakness like the one she'd discovered in herself today counted as the sort of secret that ought to be shared.

. . . wow, the urge to laugh hysterically was incredibly strong in Stephanie right now.

Keeping secrets? Nooooooooo. Didn't know a thing about that. Nope. Not at all.

Except for how the lives of people she cared about back home might depend on how well she did. Never mind that a certain boyfriend of hers consistently failed at refraining from using her civilian name in costume.

That was a train of thought that would annoy her if she dwelled on it, but cookies were a very nice distraction from such things.

Communication really did seem to be stressed a lot at these meetings of late, Elphaba noted.

She wondered if it was indicative of something, but she didn't want to pry. She kept her thoughts to herself and sipped at a cup of tea.

Kennedy was... not in the best of moods by the time she made it to the meeting, no; she basically stalked down into the lobby and slouched into a chair, not even touching any of the snacks.

Part of her still had a hard time grasping the concept that this whole not-keeping-secrets thing was actually difficult for some people to do.

Alex was more than happy to munch on a cookie and sip at her cup of coffee -- she needed something warm -- for the time being.

Leda tried to think of things she hadn't told anyone. But she was pretty sure her friends had actually known of the various plots to kill her before Crystaviel actually tried it.

Yeah, Alexander was not exactly the best person when it came to the kind of transparency that seemed to be extolled today. At the moment, he was just keeping quiet and seeing what others might have to say before deciding on what he himself might feel comfortable contributing to the conversation.

Karla thoughtfully chewing on a few cookies--which reminded her; she needed to bake some thank you cookies for Wesley soon.

There, that was a nice, light, happy train of thought, wasn't it? She was going to see how long she could stick with that one.

Dolf whose mun totally hadn't passed out in a haze of flu drugs before this went up, really was there, and bouncing a little awkwardly on his feet.
