Reserves: First Floor Rec Room, Tuesday After Classes

"Heya, guys!" Today's Reserves meeting was being held indoors again, down in the rec room of the dorms for anybody interested in gathering. Zack, of course, was doing his usual grin-and-bounce combo, which was possibly being fuelled by the really, really big mocha that he was clinging to like a lifeline. Run. "We're going to be taking it a little easy this week, at least physically, but that doesn't mean that you guys can doze off or anything! Where would the fun be in that, anyhow?"

This, from the boy who did squats as a hobby.

Maladicta shot him an amused look, shaking her head. Someone needed to learn to handle their coffee better. "While this is only a moving picture, we hope the action and ridiculous, not to mention unnecessary explosions, will help you learn something about handling yourself on... a beach? What are we watching now?"

"Uh." Kennedy was scowling at the cover of the DVD case. "Okay, who rented this? Because I'm pretty sure we didn't decide on... Let's Hope There's a Heaven? Seriously?"

...she'd rented the DVD. And she'd been pretty sure it wasn't this one at the time.

"Oh, the hell with it. Hope you guys brought popcorn. You can, like... practice your throwing arm or something if you really have to."

And help yourself to snacks. Or point and laugh at the movie mishap. Or both. Who says it can't be both?

The movie looked like it was gonna suck.

Unless he could watch it while curled up with Rinoa -- that would redeem it. Squall looked around for her.

Thanks to movie and ice cream nights with Maladicta, Alexander wasn't any stranger to horrible movies, and he had an almost embarrassing fondness for a certain type of novel, but even he could tell that this was going to be...

...interesting. He'll go with that it was going to be an interesting movie, yes.

"We're missing the ice cream," Maladicta informed Alexander, sitting down next to him.

"I was thinking the same thing," Alexander said, giving Maladicta a grin as she sat down. "That, and how I was considering blaming this on you, but I don't think there are nearly enough bad, fake monsters in this to be one of your picks."

"My pick would have involved a car blowing up."

And yes, a horrible CGI monster.

"There are at least cars in this one," Alexander pointed out. "You still have a chance."

"But now he's crying," Maladicta said with a sigh. "Men shouldn't cry."

"Now, now, Maladicta," Alexander said, "that's quite a generalization. I mean, I've never cried,"...much, but, you know, evil wizard, slavery...could be hard on a kid, "maybe but that doesn't mean a man shouldn't if he should feel the need for it."

"About losing ice cream?"

"Ice cream is very delicious," Alexander informed her. "You were just saying earlier how some would make this a little more bearable."

Cally, as it turned out, actually did bring popcorn, and was perfectly willing to share it. It was about half gone, since second period was a while ago now, but mostly edible. Only a little bit scorched to the bottom of the pan.

She was still disappointed that it wasn't a popcorn pie, though.

Or throw popcorn. Or, again, both. Because why not?

Who meant to get an action flick, not a Lucas Lee romantic... thing. Honest.

Kennedy had a large bowl of popcorn and a soda, and was sprawled out on the floor near the back of the room; while about half the popcorn had been allocated for throwing, the soda was all for her.

Tare was just going to visit to point out to Kennedy that she was back and in one piece, but the movie was --

"Hi," she said, squinting at the screen. "Um, I don't think they're fighting, hon."

"Yeah, this was not what we picked out," Kennedy grumbled, but it was a short-lived tone of complaint. "Hey, babe. Ass-kicking go okay?"

It coudl be metaphorical ass-kicking. She wasn't picky.

"What did you pick out?" Tara asked. "And ... yeah, it was fine. Rinoa's fun to work with, Eric got better."

She shrugged. "It was pretty low-key for us, actually."

"There was supposed to be a battle on the beach, not... long schmoopy walks on one. I swear, that's what it was yesterday when I picked it up." Having said all she really could in her own defense there, Kennedy scooted over to make room for her if she wanted.

"...low-key, really? Wow. Does that ever happen?"

"I guess this was the one time?" Tara tried. "I m-mean, not un-scary. But just ... it felt safer than I have last few times."

She took a seat. "So the DVD changed all on its own, huh?" Her tone was half teasing, half resigned. She should have expected something like this.

"You know, I can't complain about that?" Kennedy flicked a popcorn kernel toward the TV screen; it was more satisfying than rolling her eyes at a particularly groanworthy bit of dialogue. "The safe part, I mean. This random movie swap thing, on the other hand..."

She grinned. "It's kind of a shame you missed the rose petals everywhere yesterday."

"There were some in my room when I got back," Tara answered. "I kind of figured you were being all romantic and, uh, forgot to say thank you. Yet."

Then the dialogue was so bad even Tara had to throw a kernel. It missed the mark by quite a bit.
