So, okay, it wasn't like Puck was Mr. Party Planner, ever. But Quinn had had a birthday and it wasn't like he was going to let anyone forget that just because some people were graduating or whatever.

So, Sunday eveningish, when he sort of figured most people had gotten rid of their parents or grandmas or whatever they had brought to the island, he'd set up the 6th floor common room for Quinn's party. He hadn't gotten streamers or anything, but he had gotten a banner that read 'HAPPY 17TH QUINN', which he'd hung across one of the walls. There was also a cake, which he hoped she'd like, but he had no idea because it wasn't like Puck was an expert on girl cakes. Or cakes in general, except in the way of knowing when they tasted awesome.

And there was a ball pit, too, which he figured instant entertainment, and plenty of food other than the cake, and a table for presents. Puck was resisting the urge to stand near it, threatening, and imply that he would beat people up if they didn't leave something. He was growing, this way.

[and since I did not realize that this party is in absentia thanks to new arrivals, we shall be handwaving the eventual presence of the delightful Ms. Fabray. :D]

"Take all the time you need. You have all summer while I'm on vacation," Bruce said.

"On vacation?" asked Ariel, blinking a moment in surprise. "All summer? Where are you going?"

And then, after giving him a suspicious look, she added "Anywhere fun?" in a tone that suggested that it better be somewhere fun.

"Mountain climbing in Asia," Bruce said. "It'll be fun for me, at least."

By which he meant it was part of his training.

"Okay," Ariel allowed, looking satisfied, but also disappointed that she couldn't rib on him for being boring. "No, that is definitely, categorically fun. You'll have to take pictures."

"I'm not sure how likely that is," Bruce said. "I'll need my hands so I don't plummet to my death, after all."

"Oh, like there's not ever going to be a summit or anything like that you can stop at."

"There may be. But first I have to get there," Bruce said.

"Well, then," Ariel chirped, "I guess you better get there, then! But I guess sending me a postcard would be an okay other option."

"I'll see what I can do," Bruce said. "I promise."

Ariel nodded again; that was all she needed to be confident that if it didn't happen, there was a pretty darn good reason for it.

"I almost feel bad," she said, though her faint smile suggested she didn't feel too bad. "So many people I've talked to today seem to be off on adventures this summer."

"It's not going to cause you to run off with the vikings and start pillaging places, is it?" Bruce asked.

Ariel was going to muster up her most innocent look, interrupted only briefly by a subtle little cough.

"Of course not."

Pause.

"...you think they'll have me?"

"I think it's for the best if I just say no and hope for the best," Bruce mused.

"Ha!" said Ariel with a triumphant lift of her finger. "Nice try, Bruce. Because now I'm going to have to try to join them and get in to prove your wrong!"

"If you do run off with the vikings, I'm sure you'll be missed here," Bruce said.

"But just think of all the great stories I'll have when I return," Ariel smiled. "I don't think I'd be a viking for long."

"So you'd be going into it with a time limit in mind?" Bruce asked, giving a little bit of a smirk.

"Well, sure!" Ariel laughed. "I mean, with everything else I could be doing, I don't want to waste too much time being a viking."

"So what, just spend the week before the summer session starts with the vikings?" Bruce pondered. "Be back in time for all the new people?"

"That," Ariel said after a moment of consideration, "actually sounds perfect. I'd hate to miss the new people coming in. Although, if I did, and got back maybe a week later, at least I'd have a cool reason why I wasn't here to greet them when they got here."

"True," Bruce said. "On the other hand, if you did that this week, you'd miss saying goodbye to people. Including me."

"I could say good-bye to you today," Ariel pointed out. "And I said good-bye to Jono earlier today. Anyone else I can think of that's leaving, I'll track them down, and if anyone's leaving and I don't know about it, well, they should have let me know they're leaving. Plus, you'll be back, right?"
