Nathan was leaving in a week's time. It was still weird to think about that. And the more he thought about it, the more he fucking hated it. He didn't want to think about leaving or ditching people or running away or anything else that his little jaunt from the island could be labeled as.

Instead, he was going to hang out tonight and forget his troubles. He'd ordered himself some food (Chinese was cheap and good) and even gone to the mainland to dig up a DVD of his favorite movie. After talking about it the other day, he'd found himself wanting to watch it again.

So what if he spent a night in a common watching a movie? It was an awesome fucking movie and he didn't always have to go out. Nathan was tired and these couches were super comfortable. Hopefully he wouldn't get duck sauce or anything on them. Then, he'd have to flip cushions or something ridiculous.

Bruce was making his way back to his room after taking a run around a viking village. That was the kind of weirdness he was going to miss while he was on vacation.

But he heard a movie as he was going up the stairs, so he figured he'd stop at the fourth floor for a bit. After all, he only had a few more nights where he could do that.

"Hey," Bruce said as a greeting. "What movie is this?"

"Cabbie," Nathan supplied, glancing up at Bruce briefly before looking back at the movie. "And no, it doesn't take place entirely in a taxi cab. It's also not a romance."

Yes, someone still remembered arguing the finer points of Cabbie versus Caroline's Gone With The Wind choice. Ew, romance.

"If I wanted to see a romance that takes place entirely within a taxi cab, it would only be out of a morbid curiosity," Bruce said. "This is one I can actually sit through."

"Yeah well, my roommate tried to sell me on the glory of Gone With The Wind the other day so I'm a little leery of how people see my favorite movie," he admitted, smirking. "Her movie doesn't even have hookers!"

Did it? He couldn't remember if they'd been included in Caroline's ramblings about the southern romances.

"Belle Watling. She runs a brothel in Gone With the Wind," Bruce said. "But she's really a side character, so it barely counts."

Why yes, Bruce did know his very old movies.

Yeah, Nathan was giving Bruce a look now. "You not only know the answer but you know a specific answer," Nathan said, unsure if he should be amazed or terrified.

"You've really spent four hours of your life watching that movie when you could have been watching porn or drinking or tossing water balloons at old ladies off overpasses?"

"I also read the book," Bruce said. "It was a few years ago, though, so hopefully you can write it off as a mistake of youth."

Nathan slouched down a little further on the couch and laughed a little. "Why the fuck would you do that, mate? Did you have a lot of time on your hands or just needed some tantalizing dinner conversation one night?"

"It's considered a classic. I wanted to see what was so classic about it," Bruce said.

"Better you than me, mate," Nathan said, shaking his head. There was just absolutely no way he'd ever read or watch that movie. "You ever seen this one, then? I think it's been labeled a classic in some circles."

"Yeah. It's better than Gone With the Wind, I'll give you that," Bruce said. "But sociopaths make for more interesting movie characters anyway."

"Agreed." Really, Nathan would rather watch fluffy animals cavorting in a jungle than watch a southern era old timey romance.

"Kate showed this for me on my birthday down at the local theatre," Nathan shared. "Figured I should buy the fucking thing before I go back to England since there I'll have no job or money to do anything fun."

Nathan didn't know about region codes for DVDs either. That'd be a sad surprise that would probably result in the destruction of his mum's DVD player in a few weeks.

"Just going for the summer, or for good?" Bruce asked.

"Good."

Well, that was the truth as far as he knew.

"I did the American experiment and it didn't really agree with me. I think you people put too much salt in everything and I miss fish and chips and cheap fucking beer and chicks with no teeth that'll go down on you for a few Euros."

Maybe he didn't miss that last one that much.

"I think you're selling yourself a little short on that last one. I'm sure you could find someone with teeth for only a few Euros more," Bruce said.

"You think I should shoot for the sky when it comes to British chicks with teeth?" Nathan asked, amused enough to take his eyes off the movie. "What if the teeth mean she's compensating for something else? What if she only has...four toes or something freaky like that?"
