Earlier today, Nathan had shoved all of his things into bags and piled them up near his bed. He'd left just a few things out for tomorrow (clothes, cigarettes, small bottle of alcohol, and wallet) but other than that, he was ready to go.

But, he wasn't leaving right yet. He still had a whole day to do nothing but kick his feet up in the common room and relax. He'd dug out a bag of chips that clearly wasn't his (or was it?) and was flipping quickly through various channels in the hopes of finding something halfway decent to watch. He didn't want to be preached to or bitched at or lectured. He just wanted something mindless but Sunday mornings were proving harder for that than he'd originally thought.

Eventually, he settled on some news program. The broadcaster was some older, distinguished lady wearing a see through top and Nathan was counting the number of times her chest pressed hard enough against that top and made it able for him (and everyone) to see things. He was up to four so far. Who knew news was so entertaining?

[It's an open CR and this might be the last time Nathan's out and about before he leaves. He's probably going to sneak out and not tell anyone and then go die. Oops. Anyway, yes, wide open.]

"I'll probably be around tomorrow," Nathan replied, shrugging. "I've still got shit to pack. And I'll have to pay someone to carry my bags and that'll take some time."

Oh, she was going to be pissed at him for saying that, later.

"Do you even have enough stuff to warrant someone else carrying it?" she wondered. "Or, enough money to pay anyone?"

"I have stuff!" Nathan said, mock offended. "I've accumulated a right lot of cheap shit since I got here. I've got three whole bags! Stop assuming, you ass."

"Don't call me an ass," Kate warned him, not really serious, "I won't miss you if you call me names."

Except he'd been calling her names the entire time they'd known each other.

"Would you prefer Hot Piece of Ass?" Nathan asked, smirking. "Cuz, I could go with that too. It's true and all."

"I don't know," Kate replied, tilting her head as if she was really considering it. "Is that better or worse than Blonde Girl with the Moderately Sized Rack?"

D'aww, memories.

"Wow, that's one I'd almost forgotten," Nathan said, smirking. "What's your boyfriend call you? I bet it's something mushy and gooey and way too romantic and it'll make me vomit."

Kate snorted. "As if I'm telling you what my boyfriend calls me," she said. "That shit's private."

Also, she'd never hear the end of it, she was sure.

Nathan laughed and clapped his hands. "But, he calls you something, you just admitted it! I bet I could guess anyway. He's too proper for anything super dirty."

"Oh, you could never, ever guess it," Kate replied, shaking her head because she was quite confident on that point. "Never ever. Your brain is too dirty to figure out how his works."

"Which means it's something super duper gooey and gross!" Nathan declared, laughing. "Kate, when did you get so soft? Oh, you call him Teddy Bear, don't you? Or, what's the English phrase for teddy bear? Is there one?"

"I'm not telling you anything," Kate repeated, raising an eyebrow. "Except that no, I don't call him Teddy Bear or any other kind of stuffed animal."

Breakfast foods were so much better, clearly.

"What would you call me if I was in his position?" Nathan asked curiously. "Hypothetically, of course. Don't even reach out and try to smack me like I'm coming onto you or some shit."

Kate rolled her eyes at the last part of that statement. The rest got a shrug. "I already call you Nathaniel, that wouldn't cut it?"

"Fuck Nathaniel!" Nathan exclaimed. "I want a fucking pet name!"

"Nathaniel is a fucking pet name, dumbass," Kate retorted. "And I call you 'dearest' a lot. God, you're greedy."

[And I need to sleep, good night!]

"Nathaniel is riffing off my actual name and I don't fucking like it," Nathan retorted, shaking his head. "You're not creative. Not at all."

"Maybe I don't want to be creative," Kate shrugged. "Besides, I didn't like the pet name Bod gave me at first, either, so really I think that's par for the course."

"I will never fucking like Nathaniel," he said, shaking his head. It fell into the same category as Nate and he didn't like that one. "Pick something else."

"Why should I have to?" she wondered. "It's not like you really call me anything I actually like, either."

"I haven't called you Katie from the Midwest in weeks!" Nathan pointed out like that was some big accomplishment. "That's progress!"

"Oh, yeah, finally refraining from calling me by a nickname you shouldn't have been using in the first place," Kate replied, dryly. "Bravo, Nathan. Really, that's such a fucking accomplishment."

"Thank you!" Nathan said, taking her sarcasm literally and patting himself on the back. "I am an excellent person, I know that. You are very welcome for not using that nickname anymore Katie from Kansas."

There really wasn't anything to do with that than just rolling her eyes. "That's not much better."

"Why not?" Nathan asked, popping a chip in his mouth. "What about...Katherine?"

Well, it matched Nathaniel and he had no idea her douche ex liked to call her that.
