Fifth floor common room [evening]

Rilla had noticed plenty of new faces and in an effort to make the ones on her floor feel particularly at home, had gone to J,GOB and picked up some cupcakes to go with the tea she was brewing. (Rilla was also learning the extent of her baking prowess and icing wasn't among her talents yet.)

She'd ignored the television, but had found the only radio station around that played music she found particularly interesting to listen to, so if you were wandering past the fifth floor common room, you'd hear the kettle shrieking and the sound of jazz playing.

Rilla was ahead of her time on music--just a few decades behind the rest of the school.

Freddie chuckled. "I'd hope that clowns have a good sense of humor," he said. "I like clowns. But apparently people are taking my shirt pretty literally."

"Well, when it suggests that you like clowns for eating," said Ariel, giggling a little herself. "Unless it's actually suggesting you are a fried clown."

"Maybe I am," Freddie said with a grin. "And really, doesn't frying make everything better?"

"You're reminding me that I've never actually tried fried Cheetos before," Ariel mused, and she now knew she'd have to stop by Luke's on Friday to see if she could get Bod to try it. "But you're right; how could you go wrong?"

"Exactly," Freddie said. "Though fried Cheetos? Sounds like something Sam would eat. Though we probably shouldn't give her ideas."

"Cheetos are just about my favorite," Ariel admitted happily. "I've become a little known for my Cheetos pizza idea. It's amazing."

"You know, that sounds pretty good," Freddie said. "But you'd have to get just the right balance of red pepper flakes and Parmesan cheese on your slice, of course."

Freddie was very particular about that.

"That sounds...very particular, Freddie," Ariel said, having to agree wholeheartedly with the narrative. "Does it really make that much of a difference?"

"You have to get the right balance," Freddie said. "I mean, you can not bother, but I think you can make any pizza perfect if you add the right amounts. But that might make me a little crazy."

"Do you do a lot of cooking?" Ariel wondered.

"Well, that's not really cooking," Freddie said. "But I do do some. I'm not as good as my friend Carly's brother or anything, though."

"Cause I was just thinking," Ariel proposed, "you might have to show me what a perfectly balanced Cheetos pizza should be like. In your opinion. Because in mine, it's just about upending a whole bag on top of a large pepperoni."

"Well, tell you what," Freddie said. "Invite me next time you make one, I'll bring the parmesan and pepper flakes, and I'll show you. It's really easy."

It just takes him some time.

"That," Ariel said with a grin, "sounds like an excellent plan. I look forward to having my eyes opened, Freddie."

"Awesome," Freddie said. "You know, I kind of worried I'd have trouble making friends at a new school. Guess I didn't have to worry at all. Now I just have to hope you like my condiment skills."
