Fifth floor common room [evening]

Rilla had noticed plenty of new faces and in an effort to make the ones on her floor feel particularly at home, had gone to J,GOB and picked up some cupcakes to go with the tea she was brewing. (Rilla was also learning the extent of her baking prowess and icing wasn't among her talents yet.)

She'd ignored the television, but had found the only radio station around that played music she found particularly interesting to listen to, so if you were wandering past the fifth floor common room, you'd hear the kettle shrieking and the sound of jazz playing.

Rilla was ahead of her time on music--just a few decades behind the rest of the school.

"What does 'sex week' even mean?" Dave asked. "I mean, obviously it has something to do with sex, but...."

That's right, Dave. Try to talk about sex with a pretty girl you just met. You're 15 and kinda dorky. That'll work out well.

"I don't think I even know, because I'm pretty sure I missed it," Ariel said. Which she hadn't. She had just been cursed back then, and so, really, for her, it had been more like leave a path of destruction in your wake week. "But, I mean, how could it possibly be bad?"

"Pregnancy. STDs. Embarrassment. Ruined friendships. Ruined relationships if you end up doing it with someone else. Poor performance," Dave rattled off. "There's a few ways it could be bad."

"Now you sounds like Dr. Watson," Ariel said. "He was one of the sex ed teachers last semester; the one who put me in detention because me and Nathan threw condom water balloons at him and Mr. Holmes. But, I'm sorry, if you give a bunch of teenagers a bunch of condoms and tell them to fill them up with water to see how ineffective they can still be because they'll leak, you've got to expect them to turn some of them into water balloons, right?"

"No," Dave said, looking shocked. "No, I wouldn't expect that at all."

Now it was Ariel's turn to look shocked.

"Really?"

Okay, now she felt she should be a little worried about this Dave fellow.

"Why would you do that to your teachers?" Dave asked.

"I guess I can see that," Dave said. "I mean, detention always sounded like a good time to me."
