4th Floor Common Room | Friday Afternoon

Angelica was feeling a lot less skittish than she had a week ago upon arriving in Fandom. Everyone had been so nice, and she didn't have to deal with Empath and Roulette trying to embarrass her in class (even if said classes were very weird). She knew she had to be careful about her powers and making sure she didn't hurt anyone, but making friends wasn't bad, was it? Ms. Frost might beg to differ.

After her class that morning, she decided to investigate the common room and the television it contained -- she'd never seen one so fancy before and with so many channels to choose from. There was some show about models she'd never heard of on one of the channels. She wasn't sure exactly what was going on, but she decided she had to root for the redhead to win.

[Open! Yes, her cycle is on Oxygen right now, so I couldn't resist.]

"Hullo, Percy," Faramir smiled. "I admit that dealing with this world's computers does not feel so much like taking it easy, but it will be well worth it in the end. How have you been?"

"Not bad," Percy said, shrugging. "Trying to get back into the swing of classes, I guess. It kinda helps that these aren't really all that tough. I get to surf in one of mine. I don't know how to surf but it's on water so that's all I care about."

"You enjoy the ocean?" he asked curiously, it seemed a passion that simply got to some people. "I am afraid I do not know what surfing is, however."

[identity profile] seaweed-demigod.livejournal.com 2011-05-13 06:05 pm (UTC)(link)
"I love water so yeah, the ocean falls under that," Percy said, nodding. "And surfing's...kind of like gliding on the waves with a long board. I suck at explaining but it's a sport and a pretty hard one. I expect to fall on my face a few times."

Faramir thought on it a little and after a while he nodded. "I can see that. Gondor is many days from the ocean, but I have been to my Uncle's home often and Dol Amroth lies beside it. I have good memories there, as I do here. I suppose that means that I enjoy the water as well."

"Good thing since it's kind of all around us, right?" Percy pointed out, smirking. "I don't know how people deal with not liking it."

Percy knew Luke had his reasons so he'd get a special exception. "That mean you swim or just like to wade in the waves?"

[identity profile] thinkbetterofme.livejournal.com 2011-05-13 06:16 pm (UTC)(link)
"I swim," Faramir nodded. "I learned there, but wading has its own joys. I admit that I prefer the Moon-land over the oceans. Its plains and mountains speak to me more, but I do not see why I can not love both."

[identity profile] seaweed-demigod.livejournal.com 2011-05-13 06:19 pm (UTC)(link)
"Moon-land?" Percy repeated having not heard that term before. "Is that...like flat land, I guess? It sounds like flat land."

[identity profile] thinkbetterofme.livejournal.com 2011-05-13 06:41 pm (UTC)(link)
"Ithilien in Elvish," Faramir said with a fondness in his voice that very few people seemed to muster for a piece of land. "It was the Garden of Gondor once, with rich fields and orchards, but there are hills both in the North and the South as it lies between the river and the Mountains of Shadow. It is called the Moon-land as the land is bathed in silver when the full moon sets."

Faramir enjoyed talking about these matters far too much.

"Sounds pretty," Percy said and he did mean that.

New York didn't have a lot of places that could really be glad pretty though he loved them anyway. The closest Percy got to sounding as fond of a place as Faramir just had was when he talked about Montauk.

"Found anything here that's like that?" Percy asked curiously.

"Did you go to see Iceland?" Faramir asked. "It is not the same, but when I visit the other day, I did enjoy it very much. It is unlike anything I have seen before, and I am certain there are many places like it in this world."

[identity profile] seaweed-demigod.livejournal.com 2011-05-13 06:54 pm (UTC)(link)
"I haven't, not yet." He figured he should but cold wasn't his favorite thing. "It's not all like glaciers and stuff, is it?"

[identity profile] thinkbetterofme.livejournal.com 2011-05-13 07:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Faramir shook his head. "It is not," he assured Percy. "It is well above freezing and the land is beautiful to behold. I am glad I was given this chance."

[identity profile] seaweed-demigod.livejournal.com 2011-05-13 07:08 pm (UTC)(link)
"I might have to give it a go, then," Percy decided, nodding. "If the island's gonna be all weird and move around, I guess I should take advantage. If it drops us near Antarctica, I'm never coming out of my room."

[identity profile] thinkbetterofme.livejournal.com 2011-05-13 07:23 pm (UTC)(link)
"That is the land to the South? Covered in ice?" Faramir verified. He had studied the maps of this world to great detail, but he did not want to be wrong. "I admit I would not mind seeing such a landscape."

[identity profile] seaweed-demigod.livejournal.com 2011-05-13 07:32 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, waaaaaaaaaay South," Percy said, nodding at Faramir's question. "It's pretty much all ice. I think the only people that live there are penguins and some crazy people that go on expeditions for fun or research or something."

[identity profile] thinkbetterofme.livejournal.com 2011-05-13 07:40 pm (UTC)(link)
"I saw a picture of those creatures in a book," Faramir said instantly. "They seemed very strange, birds that do not fly! And yet, I would not mind being such a crazy person. There is so much to see here."

[identity profile] seaweed-demigod.livejournal.com 2011-05-13 07:43 pm (UTC)(link)
"You might end up with sensory overload if we end up in a big, big city," Percy remarked thoughtfully. "I'm talking like New York or Tokyo big. There's a ton of things to see there. Tons of people too."

[identity profile] thinkbetterofme.livejournal.com 2011-05-13 07:47 pm (UTC)(link)
"Perhaps," Faramir contemplated it. "How large are these cities? Minas Tirith is not as small you might think, but there are more empty houses now than there used to be."

[identity profile] seaweed-demigod.livejournal.com 2011-05-13 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)
"There's like eight million people in New York City," Percy told him. "That's where I'm from. It's huge and crowded and amazing. I miss it. It's called the city that never sleeps for a reason. There's always something going on."

[identity profile] thinkbetterofme.livejournal.com 2011-05-13 07:53 pm (UTC)(link)
"There would be with so many in one place!" Faramir agreed, boggling at the number. "I can scarce imagine it. The thought of feeding so many people and keeping that peace! It is daunting. I knew there were larger cities, but I did not dream they would be quite that large."

[identity profile] seaweed-demigod.livejournal.com 2011-05-13 07:57 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, it's pretty intense especially if you're not used to it," Percy said sympathetically. "There are places where it's not quite so thick and the city's big enough that you're not totally sardined but it's definitely massive. Biggest city this country has to offer but hey, you'll never get bored, right? Always something to do. And if that meant hiding out in your house, well, at least you'd have some good stuff to watch out your window."

[identity profile] thinkbetterofme.livejournal.com 2011-05-13 08:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Faramir grinned. "Perhaps I will have to see this city, regardless of whether it is intimidating or not. It seems like a sight to behold. How did you name it again?"

[identity profile] seaweed-demigod.livejournal.com 2011-05-13 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well, it's New York City if you wanna be correct but it's got about fifty nicknames. Big Apple's one of them and the City that Never Sleeps is the other. Those are the ones I use. And really, it's not that far away. Just a few hours up north."

[identity profile] thinkbetterofme.livejournal.com 2011-05-13 09:05 pm (UTC)(link)
"I will have to visit then," Faramir decided, though there was a good chance he'd try to go by horse. "That is, if the island decides to return to its previous location. Do you know if it has done this before?"
