5th Floor Common Room: Sunday Night [5-15-11]

Mercy had spent some time making sure her room was nice and neat so as not to bother her roommate. Back when she'd lived with the pack her room had been a mess of clutter, but when she'd moved to her mom's she'd kept everything spotless, doing her best to be a good girl and not make any trouble anywhere. She figured she'd better do the same here.

Still, everything was clean and it was the last day of the weekend, so she'd made her way to the common room and made some hot chocolate and a ton of popcorn before settling in to channel surf until she found a good movie or show to settle on.

[Open common room is open!]

Oh look at those baby blues go wide. "...what freaks me out about that is how freaking true it could be in this town."

"See," said Ariel, lifting a finger and nodding. "But I think with zombies, there's be more warning signs, from what I've figured. Now, though, if it had been a vampire attack in the pool, that would be a different story."

Although there could have been sparkling.

"Ew, no," Caroline shook her head. "Too much chance of downing some chlorine in the struggle. I would personally rather hunt a squirrel than take that risk."

[identity profile] shes-got-legs.livejournal.com 2011-05-16 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
Ariel considered this perspective.

"Yeah," she had to agree. "That chlorine is the only bad thing about the pool. It dries out my skin and it smells so funny. What's with chlorine, anyway?"

[identity profile] puppywithatutu.livejournal.com 2011-05-16 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
Ariel asked a good question to a girl who thought she wanted a really complete and well-thought out answer. "I think it's to stop the seriously dirty people from infecting normal clean people when they swim in the pool and like, don't actually change the water or clean the tiles between people. Or weeks. Or months. Not as nasty as a hot tub, but then, I've seen some seriously hairy-backed men who don't respect the hands above the water rule in those things."

There was a considerable pause here, because Ariel actually was seriously considering this conundrum from the perspective of a person who lived under the sea.

"But...what about the ocean?" she said. "Do you know how many gross things are in the ocean? A lot grosser than hairy-backed men, too. But that doesn't stop people from enjoying that..."

She knew what fish did in that water. She'd done some of it herself, if she was being honest.

Nose crinkling, Caroline really didn't want to think about the ocean and what animals along with people did in there. "I bet people would dump gallons of chlorine in the ocean if it wouldn't piss off the wildlife nuts. But yeah, I don't know. Maybe since it's like, nature and not a people-created vat of stagnant water it's okay. I mean, the fish seem to like it."

[identity profile] shes-got-legs.livejournal.com 2011-05-16 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
"Much more than chlorine, anyway!" Ariel said with a strong conviction. "But, I don't know, maybe it's because pools are a lot smaller than the ocean, and so they're more likely to get grosser, like a pond or something."

[identity profile] puppywithatutu.livejournal.com 2011-05-16 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
"Right! Ponds do tend to get that shiny green crap all over if they aren't messed about with once in a while, after all. Or maybe I just don't like scum." And she had no idea what fish would feel about it.

[identity profile] shes-got-legs.livejournal.com 2011-05-16 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
"I...think I might have to agree with you on the scum," Ariel allowed. "But, then again, I like swimming in the ocean, not ponds."

She didn't see the point of swimming in a pond unless you were a frog.

[identity profile] puppywithatutu.livejournal.com 2011-05-16 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
"Ponds are kind of small, but the ocean's awfully salty," Caroline reasoned.

[identity profile] shes-got-legs.livejournal.com 2011-05-16 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
"I like the salty part," Ariel had to admit with a faint smile. "But, I mean, I grew up around the ocean, so I'm probably pretty used to it."

[identity profile] puppywithatutu.livejournal.com 2011-05-16 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
"Did you? I was more inland. Close enough to visit, though. Where are you from?" Caroline asked curiously.

[identity profile] shes-got-legs.livejournal.com 2011-05-16 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
"You've probably never heard of it," said Ariel, who regretted her word choice as soon as they came out and she had to shudder a little in remembrance of her hipster gremlin bite.

She quickly amended. "I mean, it's one of those other world sorts of things."

[identity profile] puppywithatutu.livejournal.com 2011-05-16 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
"Ah. For a second that sounded like a mean girls blow off." Which would have been a little bit impressive, actually. "Is your world not like, Earth, or just not like this Earth?"

[identity profile] shes-got-legs.livejournal.com 2011-05-16 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
"It wasn't!" Ariel insisted. "And neither is the face that, I mean, the best answer for that is that it's complicated? I don't know. It could be this Earth, but it could also not be. I just try not to think about it, honestly."

[identity profile] puppywithatutu.livejournal.com 2011-05-16 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
Caroline smirked at her 'it's complicated.' "You're lucky you've got that whole sweetness thing going on so no one will get all judge-y at you. But it's true, who really wants to try and think about what planet we're stuck on when surrounded by vikings, right?"

[identity profile] shes-got-legs.livejournal.com 2011-05-16 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
"Exactly!" Ariel said, trying...not to think too much on what Caroline might have meant about the whole sweetness factor. "I mean, what does it really matter where we're all from, anyway?"
