The Deck ; Tuesday Evening

So, they were in Egypt now. Right, Sam was just going to stop trying to make sense of this magically moving island and it's time traveling ways. He wasn't even going to try explaining it to Ramon and Frank because all he'd get were blank looks and concern that was finally cracking up after everything that had happened the past few months.

Yeah, Sam was just going to keep the nature of the island to himself. It was bad enough Ashley and Brooke could pop up at anytime and pester him until he explained. That was more Brooke than Ashley since Ashley's patience wasn't that long.

The good thing about Egypt was that the weather had warmed up a lot and now he could sit outside on the deck with his feet propped up in front of him. His skateboard was underneath his chair and was getting a break after Sam had ridden it all through town earlier. It wasn't running but maybe he was working up to that.

It was just taking him awhile. Most things did.

This weather was lovely. As a Montana girl, days like this were few and far between and Mercy had to admit that she enjoyed the warm weather - especially when it was also dry and not all humid.

She grabbed a book and headed out to sit on the deck and enjoy the evening. She smiled at Sam, then frowned when her nose caught a hint of - what was that? He smelled - no, it must just be some little thing that had crawled under the deck and died, probably nobody but her would notice the smell anyway.

"Hey, Sam."

That got a big grin. "Oh yes, this is wonderful!"

"I was raised in Montana," Mercy explained, "So when you get weather like this you want to take full advantage of it!"

"Ah," she said, waving her book at him. "Now, there's active taking advantage and passive taking advantage. This is passive. I'm in shorts and a tank top and I plan to stretch out on a chair and read and get a little sun. And maybe talk to a person or two who's around."

She shrugged. "I'm adaptable. Enjoy what's left of the sun, enjoy the moon when it comes."

Coyotes were like that. Very adaptable.

And nothing was going to make her less happy about the weather. Not today at least.

Annie really shouldn't stop. She had to get to the causeway and make sure it worked right so she could still get to her meeting (she was going to guess Egypt in the BC days didn't have much in the way of support groups), but it wouldn't hurt to at least say hi when she saw Sam on the deck.

"What do you think, better than Iceland?" she greeted him.

Mercy laughed. "Probably more like a blue moon. As in 'once in a'? Since everything here seems to be along those lines."

"It is a nice parka, but I think I'm willing to put it away when it's May," she said, pretending to consider this. "Yeah, I'm not used to the moving yet. It's cool, but we're still moving through time and all."

"I've decided to withhold judgement for the time being," she said with smile. "I think it's too early to figure out if this is going to be a really great thing or a diaster. Or somewhere in between."

At least here maybe she had a chance of fitting in. That's more than she had at her mom's.

"I think I know how that feels," she said, totally casually. Of course, her moment like that had involved a real nervous breakdown. "So... forget I made you think about it even that much."

"No, no sky falling," Mercy said. "But if there's all this crazy stuff..." She shrugged. "Just, I believe in balance, so it only stands to reason that there's at least the possibility if there's the good crazy, there might just be some bad crazy."

[identity profile] annieadderall.livejournal.com 2011-05-18 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
"I can now say I've run from zombies, so I think I'm racking up the interesting points," she decided with a little smile. "How about you?"

"Oh, trust me, plenty of experience with bad crazy. And unexpected crazy and unexpected bad crazy."

Mercy kind of thought she might put discovering her mom had remarried 12 years ago and not told her about and hadn't bothered to tell her husband and new kids about Mercy, might just fall into unexpected bad crazy.
