Fifth Floor Common Room, Friday Afternoon

Jeremy was getting a fake little sibling tomorrow. He was pretty pumped about it, because his three elder siblings and a twin sister meant he'd never been a big sibling before. Even a fake one. And he was taking this new responsibility very seriously.

By lounging on a common room sofa, sipping coffee and dictating stuff into his phone about everything he thought he should remember to tell the new kid.

"-- oh, and the deer? Are apparently actually that color just by nature."

Now if he could only get someone to type his ramblings out and make a coherent list of them by tomorrow.

"Well, the shapeshifting," Jeremy pointed out, snapping his fingers. "Into animals and other people and whatever the hell it is that others have turned into."

"Oh, is that where the random pets keep coming from?" he asked, leaning forward a little. "I was kinda wondering. And the vampires, and random different faces that I have no idea who they belong to..."

"My sister was a dog for a while," Jeremy shared, but his voice trailed off because something else caught his attention there, making him tilt his head and furrow his brow in confusion. "Vampires?"

Had he managed to miss that?

"Yeah," Topher said, rolling his eyes at the craziness of the memory. "This blond chick from downstairs went all meta for Dracula on me and Nathan. It was nuts."

"What? When was this?" Jeremy asked, now raising his eyebrows. "And who was this?"

In case there was a need to be careful around the girl.

"Um, it was around last month, I think?" he guessed. "Like, middle of May. It was around the time everyone kind of turned into different stuff. And she's... Kate, I think her name is? She lives on the third floor."

That was pretty much all he knew about her. But oh, he'd be learning more soon. Scary more.

"What, cinema girl?" Yeah, there was a minor bit of playercest-y history there. "Oh man, I know her. Why was she a vam--"

He cut himself off when he placed the weekend in his own personal experiences.

"Ohh, that was probably the weekend I was a transvestite. No wonder I had no idea."

Topher snorted. "A transvestite? Really?" Except wait, he totally didn't want a reprise of the discussion he'd had with Hermaphrodite Guy, so maybe he'd better leave it alone.

"I had some stranger's face that weekend," he added helpfully. "Which I wouldn't have even known if my roommate didn't have mirrors lying around."

"Dude, you got to still be yourself but with another face?" Well, that just seemed unfair to him. "Jules looked like herself but she was some random chick called Anna, and I didn't look like myself at all. I just had the same last name."

"That blows," Topher said eloquently. "Yeah, no, I was just me. Except with a weirdly-shaped nose and dark hair and stuff." He shrugged. "Dude, what if we all transformed the day the new kids showed up, and they all had to meet everyone but then not know how anyone really looked?"

MEAN, Topher. Just mean.

"That would be... confusing." To say the least. "I think if the island did that, it'd make up some magical way for people to recognize each other."

Optimist.

"Dude, I hope that doesn't happen."

Oh. Topher kind of hoped it does. But okay.

"It miiiight," he said, just because he was a jerk and lived to torment people. "Then your little sib might not even know who you were, and you'd have to try and find him but you wouldn't know who he was either..."

"Well," Jeremy said, trying not to look like he had a niggling bit of doubt in the back of his mind now, "I haven't heard of that ever happening on important days like tomorrow. Maybe -- maybe the island has a heart?"

"Dude, it's an island," Topher pointed out. "How can it have a heart? It's a body of land."

SO MEAN.

"Dude, it's clearly not a normal island," Jeremy returned, leaning forward. "Normal islands don't transform people into anything. It might as well have a heart, man."

[dollpocalypse]

"I've been told the craziness comes from machinery," Topher informed Jeremy. "Like, wires and stuff under the island? Which makes a lot of sense, if you think of it from an engineering perspective, because sometimes the wires cross and they make us move, and sometimes the crazy energy attracts crazy invasions..."

"You lost me around 'engineering', dude," Jeremy informed him in turn, flopping back against the couch again. "I'm just gonna think it has a heart."

Sigh. Whoever wound up with Jeremy as a big sibling would have a hard time adjusting.

"But -- " Topher gave up. "Yeah, sure, man. A heart. That sounds super-duper plausible!"

Lots of sarcasm and offense intended.

Jeremy wasn't too easily offended, though. To him, Topher just sounded exactly like his big brother Brian, right about now.

"Whatever, dude," he said, waving a hand. "I'm not gonna sit here and think the island is gonna pull some wacky stunt tomorrow. I don't think paranoia is the right way to go as a big sib."

[dollpocalypse]

"Well, good luck with that," Topher said, shrugging. Then, gesturing to the computer: "I'll go print this out for you."

And maybe he would add some random and inappropriate things to the list, just for fun.
"Seeeeee ya!"

Jeremy waved a hand again, then frowned at his coffee.

Getting distracted led to cool coffee. It was a lesson to be learned over and over again.
