Fifth Floor Common Room, Friday Afternoon

Jeremy was getting a fake little sibling tomorrow. He was pretty pumped about it, because his three elder siblings and a twin sister meant he'd never been a big sibling before. Even a fake one. And he was taking this new responsibility very seriously.

By lounging on a common room sofa, sipping coffee and dictating stuff into his phone about everything he thought he should remember to tell the new kid.

"-- oh, and the deer? Are apparently actually that color just by nature."

Now if he could only get someone to type his ramblings out and make a coherent list of them by tomorrow.

"Oh," Ariel shrugged as if it were nothing, though she did feel an odd sense of pride at the compliment, however random it may have been. "I do it a lot. The pizza guys are my favorite; they always seem really excited to try whatever new thing I throw at them. Well, no, actually, Miss Burrows was the best, really. She could think of some really smart ways to deep fry whatever I came up with."

"Who's Miss Burrows?" Jeremy... didn't really know too many people from town by name. "And why are deep frying things? Is it like a food experiment?"

"It all started," Ariel said, in the tone of one letting another in on some grand epic, "when I thought about deep frying a Cheeto. From then on in, yeah, it became an adventure in finding out what else might be good deep fried, especially since the deep fried Cheetos were kind of...underwhelming. But she owned Luke's Diner. I think she left, though, so I'm not sure who's in charge of it now...or if they'll let me deep fry things. I've been kind of busy lately."

"Sounds interesting." And that was actually sincere. Hey, Jeremy liked food just as much as the next person, and he'd heard of worse projects. "What's kept you so busy?"

"Well," Ariel shrugged again, "part of it was going home this week. That definitely takes me out of things for a bit for obvious reasons, but it's nice to see everyone. I'd like to say another part of it is because Jim has a solar powered flying surfboard, but most of it's really been the fact that now that Jenny's gone, she actually passed on the management of Pixie Dust to me. It's so much work! But it's really exciting, too. I can't wait for next week; I might get to hire a newbie!"

Jeremy looked impressed. "Wow." Actually, that was a lot of stuff, but he was going to latch onto that last bit. "You actually get to manage the store now? That's kind of huge, congrats!"

"Thank you!" Really, how could Ariel not beam. "I hope I don't screw it up, but, clearly, I've gone a long way from the girl who got yelled at for letting someone pay with an I.O.U. In my defense, though, he totally paid back eventually. It is a lot, but it's going to a really fun challenge. It's kind of impossible to not have a fun challenge when clothes are involved, really."

"You'd get along great with my sisters," Jeremy had to remark on that point with a little quirk of a smile. "And, okay, I can see the appeal too. Clothes are awesome."

He was just hanging out in a common room, and he was wearing a vest (albeit let casually unbuttoned) over his t-shirt. That should have said enough.

"Yeah," Ariel said with a smirk of her own as her eyes roved over Jeremy's clothes, "I had a feeling you might be one of the rare guys who could appreciate Pixie Dust as much as I do. Hey, if you ever decide to stop in on a Tuesday, you might even be able to convince the girl who runs the joint to get you a managerial discount."

And Jenny couldn't say anything about it. Ha!

Not that Jeremy needed a discount; he was pretty sure Pixie Dust prices were way lower than what he was used to. But hey, cute girl working there, no harm in that.

He grinned. "I might just take you up on that. Tuesdays? I'll keep that in mind."

"Tuesdays," Ariel confirmed with a nod. "Unless anything comes up and I have to switch with anyone, but I've been working Tuesdays there for what seems like forever. It'd just be weird to switch."

And now, of course, she was trying to think of how Jeremy might look in that pink shirt. It had been ages since she tried to push that shirt on anyone, which was a shame.

Jeremy's father wore light pink shirts. With red suspenders. Tripp made it look good; Jeremy wanted to touch neither.

It would be interesting.

"You're used to your own thing," he agreed, nodding. "It's a routine, I totally get maybe not wanting to change that. Even if doing stuff in a new way can be good too."

"I get most of my mixing things up with everything else in life," Ariel reasoned lightly. "And I really don't want to mess this manager thing up, so I think keeping at least that consistent will be good. Responsible, and everything."

Her daddy would be so proud...even if it was selling human clothing.
