Fifth floor common room - Late morning

It was almost nearing noon when Faramir returned from that morning's ride. He'd ridden far, had even crossed to the mainland so when he return, his stomach was growling. Which meant that the common room was his first stop. He'd change out of his ranger drab later. A quick survey of the fridge had him pulling up eggs and bacon which would be plenty for a hearty meal.

He'd turned on the radio to one of the classical music channels and Faramir was humming along as he finished up his omelet and boiled some water to make tea.

"Mostly relieved," Faramir chuckled as he watched Kate gobble down the bacon. "But yes, it was rather strange. I had been an owl and I must say that being able to fly was not the worst experience."

"I can see how that wouldn't be so bad," Bod agreed, taking a seat on one of the couches and watching Kate lest she do something like bite or scratch. "It's never happened to me so I guess I can count myself lucky. I was even skipped over when it came to being a pony last weekend."

"I had that good fortune as well," Faramir straightened up and grabbed his plate from the counter. "Though it would not have been so bad as one could talk to other people. That is the most frustrating part of being turned into an animal."

He tried to carefully move around Kate to take his seat. "Well, that and the knowledge that my brother would never let me forget if he were to find out."

Kate followed Faramir over to the couches but hopped up next to Bod and settled down there now that her hunger craving had been satiated.

"I suppose the talking was a good enough trade off for not having thumbs or anything else most humans are used to," Bod agreed with a little laugh. "And I didn't see anyone advertising pony rides so it looks like no one got too bold about things."

Faramir laughed as he dug into his food. "I believe the risk of getting a hoof in the face might have been deterrent enough," he remarked, though he could imagine Boromir attempting to do it either way. "I will just hope that the roles are not reversed next week."

"I hope that as well," Bod agreed with a laugh. "I didn't do so well when most of the males became females so I can't even imagine what it would be like to be an animal. I'm barely comfortable in my own skin."

"I had the pleasure to take part in that as well," Faramir shook his head in memory. "It was interesting at least, if not somewhat confusing. But I see your point, I would much rather be myself as well. I believe we all would."

"Indeed," Bod agreed with a nod. "Though, after each bit of weirdness, I always wonder what causes these transformations. Obviously, it's the island but I wonder about the mechanics or the biology of it."

"I hardly understand half of the technology on this island," Faramir admitted. "I doubt that I will ever grasp how the strangeness works. Perhaps it is an easy way out, but I believe I will simply accept that it does happen."

"Yes, I haven't gotten much further than thinking about it," Bod agreed with a slight nod. "Trying to do anything further than that would probably just lead to me breaking something or breaking myself and I tend to get frowned at if that happens."

"And you would not wish to make a cat frown at you," Faramir said, slightly amused. "How long have you been on the island that you have managed to escape this particular faith?"

"It'll be an entire year come spring," he said, nodding. "I've missed animal transformations but I haven't been so lucky in other arenas of island oddities. I think my luck comes and goes but it's nothing I haven't been able to survive thus far."

Faramir nodded. "I will have been here a year in September," he said. "It seems for the most part the island means to embarrass us or make us laugh more than it means us harm. If an island can have any sort of desire, that is."

"Indeed," Bod agreed with a nod. "Have you ever had the, well I shouldn't say it's an honor, but the experience of having been bitten by a gremlin?"

"No, but I have heard many warnings about them," Faramir said. "I would much rather avoid it. I believe I prefer changing into something else and keeping my mind, than the other way around. Have you experienced it?"

"No." And he was very glad for that. "I've seen it in action, I believe, but I've been a mere witness instead of actually experiencing. The only good thing seems to be that most bites just have humorous and embarrassing consequences and nothing too harmful."

"Perhaps it is merely to keep us humble," Faramir suggested, finding there should be some purpose behind it at least.

"That sounds like fairly good reasoning," Bod agreed, nodding. "Hopefully with all this talk and such, we haven't just doomed ourselves to getting bitten now."

"It is a risk," Faramir glanced around to make certain there were no gremlins lurking behind the couch. "I believe we may be safe as long as Kate is here. No one would wish to be cruel to someone who is already a cat."

"She would...probably cause them great pain once she was a human again," Bod agreed with a laugh. "She's really not one to be trifled with as her bad side is quite bad. She's intimidating."

Kate the cat purred and stretched out, the very picture of intimidation right then and there.

"Most women here are not!" Faramir did enjoy this part of Fandom very much. "I will take heed of your words and hope my offering of bacon has not offended her."

"No, I think you'll be on her good side for awhile," Bod assured him, reaching down to give Kate a few strokes against her fur. "Have you met Kate as a human or is this the first meeting?"

"It is my first meeting, I believe," Faramir said, a little amused. "I hope she will forgive me if I do not recognise her next time we meet. Unless the resemblance is striking?"

"It's not, not really," Bod laughed, shaking his head. "Kate's very blonde and thin. This cat has darker fur and isn't all that thin because she seems to eat everything in sight. I'm worried about her getting sick, honestly."

"I would not worry," Faramir reassured him. "Cats seem to know not to eat too much and there is at least some instinct that remains of the animal you turn in to."

He gave Bod a rather sheepish look. "Not that it improved my flying skills."
