Third Floor Boys' Bathroom, Very Early Saturday Morning
"Go fish."
This was not, Peter reflected, the most dignified position he had ever wound up in in his life: sitting on the floor of the boys' bathroom surrounded by improvised killing implements, playing cards with a sixteen-year-old kleptomaniac liar while monsters reigned both in and outside of the dorms.
Karla could go suck it, though.
Technically, they'd been locked in Peter's room for a while prior to this, but that was a plan that had run into a few technical snags -- namely the lack of presence of, y'know, a toilet. So now they'd been here for a few hours. It smelled. It was disgusting. Peter kind of wanted to die.
Valentine was never hearing about this. Ever.
[[ open to anyone who might be venturing near the bathroom at this hour ]]

Kenzi had vetoed hiding in the girl's bathroom, which was less disgusting, but would also freak out half the girls. If a guy got freaked out by her being in here, she was heading for the showers. But she'd lived on the street, it wasn't like she hadn't seen outdoor toilets before.
She was sitting on one of the garbage bags that used to hold weapons. Now the weapons were spread out on other bags and paper towels, and were being used as stakes for the game.
Still holding onto the switchblade, though. That baby was hers.
"HA! I am so lucky I am unbelievable!" She put down four sixes. "Read 'em and weep."

"Fine," he grumbled, reaching behind him. "You can have the Wiimote, smart kid." He tossed it towards her. "Catch."

Fastest eaters in Fandom! Yes! Able to re-fuel and hide again within seven minutes!

Those monsters were noisy fuckers. He reached and grabbed a card. Another seven. Well, that was something, at least.

He glanced back at the door. "And there's no way in hell I'm sleeping here."
There was undignified, and then there was undignified.

Peter was lucky she wasn't chattering full-bore at 500 kph, just to distract herself. It was getting late. And she was really, honestly scared to go to sleep in the dorms. Bo wasn't guarding the place, she was out somewhere probably eating a gremlin.
"So are we crashing in my room or your room? Who's your roomie?" She asked, determined. "And you're good with me bringing Bart if he wants to come along, right? He has superpowers. He can be useful." Also, he was tiny. Kenzi hated it but she sort of felt responsible.
no subject
Well, that made him feel slightly better, knowing he held a card she needed.
"What are his superpowers?"

Kenzi's room. Superhero kid. Hey, he had been planning to make a few more friends in high places once this was over. "So that's the plan," he added, "Get up, get food, get down to your casa and get this kid in the closet until we need him."

"Plus I'm one floor down, if we *did* have to go out the window, it'd be safer." Always assuming nothing was waiting for them under the window. "We should set traps across the door, once we're inside."
no subject
He tossed the two in his deck aside and drew another card-- hey, another nine. This was starting to look like something. "Or it would give monsters outside more of a shot to crawl back in to the room," he retorted. "We'll keep the windows closed. And traps across the door could damage friendlies as well as enemies. Barricading it is a better idea."
no subject
"Hunh." She frowned, considering that line of logic, then nodded. "Okay. It's a good position anyway, right next to the staircase. Closer to the Common Room." She grimaced, and cuddled the Wii remote. "How long does this crap last? It already feels like forever."
no subject
He glanced towards the door again. "The inmates keep talking about how these things generally don't go past the weekend," he said, "But that's a little too deterministic for me. We'll see."
no subject
thank you, Momokogrudgingly, and folded her arms, gnawing her lower lip. "Do you think making a break for the mainland would help? It looks way American Gothic. Heck, even Canadian Gothic."no subject
Hey, middle of a crisis. He could speak his mind. "Also..." He tossed four nines down on the floor in front of him. "Pay up."
no subject
SUPERPOWERS. They were for saving people! People like them! "Me neither," Kenzi said glumly, then again, thought of Bo. She wasn't about to tell Peter that she might, possibly, want to check on her... somehow. Maybe one of the magic types would know how?
"Awwwwww." Kenzi grimaced, and handed over the Wii. "Keep it uncontaminated."
no subject
Shut up. Sometimes he really was just sixteen.

Look, it might work. You never knew.

"Then maybe we should go to the clinic," he offered. "Lend a hand."
No, he didn't expect her to take that.

"Really?" he drawled, "More armored people makes us safer? Spoken like a real Republican, Kenz."
He did, however, take his phone out of his pocket. "Still, there might be a few people in the building who could help. If they're still sane, anyway."

He dialed the first number, and got no answer.
"Get calling."

"Oh, come on," he groaned, "Is everyone a monster right now? What is wrong with this school?"

...Okay, so that slip hadn't been intended, but maybe it could win him some sympathy points. He could cash those in later.
no subject
... Yeah, Kenzi had no clue either, but hopefully something would occur to her in a second or two.

"'Cause I'll throw you to them and run like the wind. I bet I can beat you at a wind-sprint."
Like that wasn't motivating!

Heh. Time to collect all the weapons again.

"That's why my grandparents chose to change theirs," he said, lightly. "Eastern Europe gets a little creative with its surnames."
He did memorize the grip of his fingers on the blade, though. He would never be a soldier, but it wouldn't hurt to know a few things.

She opened the door very carefully, and crouched down below head-height to peer out, so people would miss her. "Coast is clear."
