Third floor common room- Thursday night

Annie had decided to venture out into the common room tonight, because even if she was a little psychotic when it came to school she was perfectly capable of enjoying the last few days of her break by not doing much. She could do what any other teenager would do on a Thursday night: order a totally shareable pizza, turn on the TV, and hang out.

The TV thing would be going a lot more smoothly if she could find anything on worth watching. Mostly it was just cartoons, or Reading Rainbow, or some too-cheerful program aimed towards teaching kids something or other. Given how the Hallmark commercials had brought her to tears that one day, she knew what Fandom was up to now.

Too bad she didn't figure that out before she got to Barney. Or whatever meta-ly passes for it."Oh nooo, I'm never getting this song out of my head."

Dave was wandering out for something to eat when he spotted Annie and - more importantly - whatever that was on TV. "What is that and why is it singing?"

Oh Dave. The early 80s were a much more innocent time.

Sorry, Dave, Annie was just going to stare at you now. "You've never seen Barney? Or whatever his name should be?"

Unless he was from another world, she figured there was no excuse.

"No. And I don't think I could be happier to say that," Dave said, gaping in wide eyed horror at the purple monstrosity.

"He's a singing dinosaur," she said, and that may have gone without saying now. "I used to love him when I was in preschool."

She tilted her head and watched for a moment. "Yeah, I think I've outgrown it?"

"I can see why," Dave said. "I guess I can't make too much fun. I'm sure there were things that would horrify me from my childhood if I saw how bad they were now."

"Like what?" she asked curiously.

It was probably on, Dave!

"I'm not telling you," Dave said. "Then you could tease me about it."

"I wouldn't tease!" She might tease. "I'm just curious. Since you know what I watched..."

"Ever heard of HR Writrsrsohi?" Dave asked. "I don't know how my parents never figured that one out."

"No. What's it like?" Tell her about it, Dave!

"Well, I've never been on acid, but I'm pretty sure it's almost the same thing," Dave explained.

Annie frowned. "I've heard enough descriptions of it that I think I never need to see the show."

"I can't blame you," Dave said. "It's really not a show for anyone over the age of five unless they're on a lot of prescription cough syrup."

"I think maybe it sounds like something not under the age of five, either," she said.

"Well at that age you're just really impressed by the colors and the fact that things are happening for no real reason," Dave said. "You don't know that the actual reason is drugs."

And to think, the kind Annie had been on didn't cause hallucinations at all! "I wonder who okayed that. Who thought 'this is a good idea to show children?' Probably someone else who was high," she decided.

"Oh, no. No. No. Definitely not," Jack said coming into the room and seeing that thing on TV. "I cannot have that song playing. Ever."

Jack had bad memories of Zoe singing that out loud. Constantly.

He blamed the dinosaur for the juvenile delinquency.

"What's wrong with it?" she asked. Forget that she was occasionally humming it when she wasn't thinking.

"It's only the vilest thing on television! My d- sister watched it too much," he complained. "I'm certain there was personality damage."

"It's not vile! It's a dinosaur who sings about love. It's self-esteem-building!" said Annie. Of all people. Because she just had self-esteem in spades/

"You can get the same effect with a hug and an ice cream bar," Jack grumbled as he flopped in a chair. "Or a nice jog around the island."

Annie frowned. "You get self-esteem from jogging?"

"Sure," Jack said as he leaned back and put his feet on the table. "You take a long jog. Endorphins kick in. You get some exercise and feel good about yourself."

"You've been radioing with the zombie teacher too much," she decided.

"He runs from monsters," Jack joked. "I run from things blowing up., There's a difference."
