Shooting Range, Wednesday Afternoon
Wesley was really starting to wonder if he should get paid for administering these lessons. Still, after class and a brief campaigning session with Quinn, he stopped by the shooting range to meet Kenzi to teach her her way around a gun.
And, as he was waiting, maybe shot at the target with more force (and deadly accuracy) than usual. This past week hadn't exactly been relaxing.
Unfortunately, he didn't notice the tiny spy camera recording his every move.
[[Wes is here for she who is mentioned, but open range, of course!]]

But that was for later! Now was for shooting! "Thanks again for this, Wes."

"Oh! Oh, of course. Don't mention it."
Immediately he pointed her to the boxes of safety equipment. With Kenzi, he was guessing that would probably be Very Very Necessary.

Please, Kenzi. Please keep it pointed in that direction.

"Now," he said. "Apart from the trigger, you'll want to direct you attention to two other places. This here on the side," he said, tapping a lever-like button, "is the safety. It prevents the bullets from entering a chamber, and thus keeps you unable to shoot." Which was why it was on now, thank you very much. "And over here is the button that allows the bullets to slide into the chamber. As I said, it won't work while the safety is on, but when you're ready to fire, you first click the safety off, then unload a bullet into the chamber and then fire."
Aaaaand breathe.

"About a decade," Wesley said airily, as though it wasn't weird to picture an eight-year-old toting a gun. "Give or take."
Actually, give. A year.

Both to get used to it, and for better filming opportunities!

This was why people back at the Watchers' Academy had occasionally called him a smug git.

But if the competence matched here, he deserved a little smug.

Now, if she had asked him to shoot two guns at once while flying through the air... oh, wait, he could do that too. Hmph.
"Simple, really."

Pow!
Okay, the guy was missing his belt buckle, not his neck, but still. YAY!
no subject
CAREFULLY.

Not like that ever happened on Angel or anything.no subject
Of course not. That would just be weird.no subject
Lemon Pledge. The zombies cringed a lot.

"How... thoughtful," he said, issuing her a rifle. "Now, this will offer a bit of recoil against your hand, but the mechanics should be the same. Though on this one, the safety's actually on the other side. Just here," he said, tapping it.

Because THE PAIN. THE MISFIRED SHOTS. THE HORROR.

Kenzi fired another couple practice shots, and asked, "Can I see you do that? Can I learn how?"
no subject
"I'll show you, but it's rather more something that comes from practice than someting that's taught," he told her. "Unfortunately, it might be especially tricky for you personally, as it requires a particularly firm grip, while your... avocation depends more heavily on light fingers."
All this in just a moment of thought.

Film little camera, film!

"You're welcome to. Just... with both hands, if you don't mind."
Then in the interest of being just a liiiiittle bit smug, he brushed off his shoulders, took the gun in his left hand, and fired toward the target.
It hit the silhouette right through where its eye would have been. And while his hand did hurt, he managed to refrain from actually rubbing his wrist the way he wanted to.

"As for the time it'll take, it's difficult to say. Though if you train independently on a rigorous schedule, your aim should improve within the next several months."

Because she needed supervision. Lots of it.
