2nd Floor Girls' Room, Saturday Night

The powers that be had decided to recast Tara to attract a younger, edgier demographic. The problem was the producers also believed that younger, edgier demographic had the intelligence of soup, and so they'd cast a model who was trying very very hard to act ... and not doing a very good job of it.

Not that backstage silliness was Tara's main concern tonight. Instead, she was standing in front of the girl's bathroom mirror, staring and staring and staring at a plus sign on a little plastic stick.

"Oh no," she said flatly. "It can't be."

Kenzi came in to fix her make-up after wailing over Poor Comatose Toby (with no scene segue: such was the timing, she was just there, suddenly). She stared at the stick in Tara's hand and patted her arm with false sympathy. "You have bebe? Iz joyful!" Sniff, sniff. She got a paper-towel to dab at the two tiny dark marks of mascara on her perfectly made-up face.

"I don't know how it happened," Tara said, looking over Kenzi's shoulder and toward where she hoped the cue cards would be. "I don't have a boyfriend."

She sounded a bit like a robot. A very pretty robot.

"Zere vas bad night, maybe, da?" Kenzi patted at her eyes, watching Tara in the mirror. "Maybe, you forget where you were, you wake up, the panties, zey are missink?"

"I don't remember." There had been a lot of nights like that. Or none at all. Tara wasn't sure what her motivation was.

She turned to Kenzi. "What should I do if it's true?" she implored woodenly. "I am not ready to raise a baby."

"Ohhhhh." Sad sympathetic look at Tara. Evil smirk of thought into the mirror over her shoulder.

"I know, it is terrrrrrible!" She turned to pat Tara's arm again, and said, "You are so young. I know people. Zey vant baby. Nice people, good people! You tink, hmm, maybe, you give baby to zem?"

...with a small handling fee for Kenzi. Of course.

"I need money," Tara read off the cue card. "My father needs di-, duh -, di-uh-lie-sis, and my mother ran off to Portugal to heard goats. Would these people help my family too?"

"Da!" Well, maybe the dad could be given good drugs. "Your mozzer, I am sorry, you want us to find and kill the goats?" That wasn't too hard either. Kenzi pouted. "Trust Kenzi. I fix everysing."

"Thank you, Kenzi. I will trust you." She was smiling, and sounding a bit like a barbie doll manned by a very dramatic 7-year-old. "Tell your friends I will be happy to have a baby for such nice people. You do not have to hurt my mother's goats."
