The Gym, Sunday morning

After a series of good and/or at least interesting dates last night (where he learned some new things about some of his classmates, naturally), the knowledge that each of the Student Council candidates he'd given a little support to had done well (not that it was possible for them not to), getting to yell at someone about guns and having her back down, and a solid week of learning in class and out, Bruce was in a genuinely good mood today. He even had a slight smile on his face, and he wasn't faking it like normal.

Yeah, it was weird for him, too, so he was hitting a punching bag pretty hard. Maybe if he hit it hard enough, his hand would start to hurt and he'd be able to take the edge off of this good mood and he'd be able to get back to his normal state.

Meanwhile, Bruce was training precisely so he could spend all of his time in a crime-infested city.

"Really? What do you think of it? Is it a nice break to be here, or does it make you strangely homesick?"

Kate shrugged, deceptively casually. "There's not much to miss." It bothered her, yes, but dwelling on it got her nowhere.

"This is one time when 'living in the past' is the better choice."

"I can see why," Bruce said. "In that case, I hope everyone is spoiling you a little to make sure the 'past' is as good as it can be."

"I think all that would do is make me feel like a charity case." Which she didn't much like the sound of either, and her mouth pursed in distaste.

"I'll have to go back eventually. Probably shouldn't get too comfortable."

"I suppose I can see that," Bruce said. "I've probably spent more time in Fandom than I have in any one place in years, so it's going to be strange enough for me to leave for a relatively mundane world after this year."
